745i,is it worth it? Will it be a nightmare

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum. So here's the deal. If been wanting a 745i since I was 16 now im almost 19. I currently drive a Chrysler 300 2006. I'm thinking of trading in my car and getting a 745i for around 9-14k preferably a 2003 or newer.so It's Gunna have some miles on it. And it will have to be financed. I went thru one forum and I'm starting to feel like this is the most unreliable car to buy. Not so much engine but tranny is the big problem here. and just maintenance is like 2000+ every time it goes in. I'm a DIY guy. I'm currently rebuilding my chryslers 2.7 in my garage and when it's done, I'm Gunna trade it in. But I'm leaning away from this car with all the things if been reading. I know its a car and things break but I feel like i will get it and 10k miles later after i paid for a 400$ in oil changes i will get hit with a 6000$ tranny problem or some costly engine repair. Someone talk me into getting it or ima just jump in a srt8 300c. who has had no problem with theirs?

Gunna? Really?

I would just stick to the 300c that you have.. Maintenance will probably be too much and not worth it. Just my honest opinion.

I would save your money and wait for a newer model with lower miles. Chrysler 300 is not a bad car.

If you are DIY guy you can buy this car it and save a lot, almost every maintenance and/or coming problems you can do inside your garage, trust me, if you hear someone tell you oil change more then $120 or they pay for brake pads $2000 then they going to dealer, everything you need you can buy much cheaper on line and install it your self, in my opinion this car has around 5-7 coming problems that can be fixed your self, what you will definitely need computer with software for code reading and good thinking brain for right diagnostic, also never go to dealer they will thinner you pocket in few seconds, good luck

One of the best cars I've ever owned, pleasure to drive..get PPI before u buy and a warranty and your good to go.

Good afternoon, sounds like we share the same car taste, as I'm also 18 as well. My first car was a 300SRT-8 and I absolutely loved the HP & torque... That being said, I was always looking for more in the interior. I bought my '06 SRT8 with 39k miles for $21k & drove it for a couple months & got bored with it.
Month or so after selling it, I was on Craigslist and found a local '02 745i with 154k miles, $12k. I decided to buy it because I knew I'd be just as happy in it as the 300, with cheaper payments too. I ended up selling the car with 164k miles, and only changed the oil, cabin air filters, and new tires in my time of ownership (only sold because I wrecked it, plus it was getting quiiiite a few miles on it). But, I will say this; I definitely got lucky with my 745i (being it never had problems when I owned it).

What do I recommend?
Depends what you're looking for; 425HP, Ho-Hum interior, gas guzzler (another reason why I wasn't so sad to see mine go), not THAT spacious in the back for passengers, that you know may have some problems in the future (just like any other car).
Or, are you looking for a giant, luxurious boat (the 745), roomy, excellent interior, not fast (but definitely not slow!), that you know will probably have problems in the future that are gonna cost $$$.

Thanks guys for all the help.. does anyone know if ess came out with the supercharger yet? I don't see it on the site but one guy said he ordered it thru them? And anyone have 24's on their 7 series, do most fit with no rub,or do I have to cut some stuff lol. And what about color matched tailights? Anyone gone that for into customization?

If you use the Search feature on the site, I think you'll find a couple topics on 'Superchargers' within the E65 forum.

stick with the 300, the 745 isnt a reliable low maint old car. Its a once 90k super lux automobile with the same expense to fix it yrs later.

The price you will pay for the car will eventually be eclipsed by service alone. Then you will be selling the 24s to get a new ASK unit just to have a working stereo and nav

If you like the 745i, buy it. I rented a 2012 300 for two weeks. Its a nice car, but its not a 745i. 745i are nice luxury cars for farely cheap. I wouldnt go over 22" rims though. As the song goes:

"Too much rim makes the ride too hard.."

I say dont do it. For one you have a 2.7l 300 which is as base as it geys and your working on rebuilding engine. And you are financing a 745. Even if you are a diy person you jave to buy the parts and a lot of them are not cheap. Id hate to see you get a 7 with a lot of problems.

I hate to see another art piece like the 7 get all ruined with a gangstaa modification like that 300, so Id not recommend you get one.
