I don't have the feature (wish I had), but you guys with the later builds might check to see if there is an option to enable the kick in iDrive. It seems like the kind of feature that you might want to enable/disable...
Just like my car has a comfort option for unlocking just the driver door, or all doors when touching the driver door handle. This option is likely the same on all cars equipped with comfort access. |

I went to the dealership and asked service. They did some research and found that some 5-series sedans have this option, but it's not available (even as an option) on the GT. I couldn't find it anywhere in my owners manual either. So I think you're right - the website must have erroneous info. I'm ok with not having this feature - I'd hate to be washing the car and accidentally open the big hatch, and then there's soap running everywhere...... |

Now, those "free" items such as the rear camera and nav, appear as a line item in build-your-own, but there is no longer a reference to the automatic tailgate feature. Last edited by starryeyed; 04-12-2012 at 06:10 PM. |

Wardman, if you are worried about low ceilings in parking garages, were you aware that you can set the height to which the hatch will open using the iDrive. I believe it can be found under the Settings choice in the menu.

Yes - and I set it from day one. Mad part about it is that at the setting to keep it from hitting the garage door "hard" is it's lower than my normal height so I bang my head on it when it's opened until I raise it more.
PS - unlike my RX400h, you cannot open it with the garage door down either, I found out the hard way. And when trying to stop it from hitting, there is a delay when trying to put force against it... therefore a ding in the hatch that had to be painted.... With all the sensors, they should put one inthe hatch to stop it when getting close to hitting something Wardman |

Ok this is the update from BMW
all GT don't come with leg swing open tailgate function. Well at least 2012 model won't. So I asked, why the web site state it does, well it's for the 5 series and they just port it over on the GT........ Any way....before I wrote and call BMW NA. I went back to my dealer and they had 6 GT on the lot and I had kicked and danced under the bummer on every one of them lol MP you can stop trying now

Shin i am already working through bmw NA on this... because there web guys screwed up I'm not suffering.... no where does it say they are not responsible for typos..... i have requested compensation for...on my car the kick tailgate, and my M sport was delivered without a M dead pedal, without M door sills, and without M black tail pipes... they are not sure why.. honestly i am hoping for free bmw parts credit or discount on the cost rather then them supplying the parts and installing... the m door sill don't illuminate so not sure care about them when the bmw ones do... i am changing the exhaust to quads because i hate the trapezoids...and the m foot rest they supply is a cheesy grey plastic one... but if i can get them to give me a free month off the lease it will pay for part of the exhaust and pedals....and I'm hoping for a 500 dollar parts credit to be able to get the ski the base and ski package for the roof.....

It is a long way across the Atlantic, through the Panama Canal and up the coast to CA. My car came that way - the tracking and anticipation drove me crazy. http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/07/14/ho...d-to-delivery/ |

I'm not too worried about the hands-free tailgate because with my luck I'd clock myself in the teeth with the tailgate while washing the car. |
