The wait almost killed me, but my new 330i ZHP has finally arrived!

The wait almost killed me, but my new 330i ZHP has finally arrived! Now I just have to endure the break-in period.... We picked it on Thursday, May 6th, and I've been too busy to get any good pictures, but I promise that I will, eventually.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to BMW Concord regarding the purchase of my first BMW. After performing exhaustive research to ensure that a BMW 330i was the best possible choice to satisfy my driving requirements, I found that my work was only partially done. The next step in my quest was finding the exact car to meet my rather particular specifications. I was not looking for just any BMW. I was
looking for a rare specimen; an Imola red car, with tan leather, a manual transmission, moon roof, xenon lights, heated seats, and the Performance Package. After much searching, I came to realize that the car I wanted was going to have to be custom ordered. I spoke to the local dealerships in Roseville and Sacramento, but neither could match the price or exceptionally friendly internet sales staff at BMW Concord.

As part of my research, I test drove several different vehicles, including the Infinity G35 (coupe and sedan), Lexus IS300, Mazda RX8, Subaru WRX, Cadillac CTS, and anything else that seemed close. I also tested several different flavors from the BMW lineup. Including all of the 3 series coupes and sedans, and the 5 series. My family demanded that my choices had to be limited to a 4 door sedan, so that ruled out the 3 series coupes and the awesome M3. (Not that the M3 was ever in the budget, but that's one of those things that you really search hard for to find a few extra dollars!) After having driven all of these vehicles, I had narrowed the choices down to the 330i and the G35 sedan. I'm a power junky, but needed quite a bit of refinement, and the only competition for the 330i was the G35. The G35 is a very nice car, and I rode that fence for quite a while, but I just liked the way the 330i drove better. I had pretty much made up my mind on a 330i, with the Premium and Sport packages. Then I drove a 330i with the Performance Package. What a sweet machine! I was hooked. Such immediate throttle and steering response, a ride that is incredibly flat in the corners, but doesn't beat you up as a daily driver, and the way it looks with the aerodynamic package and wheels... WOW! Incredible!

I really liked the Alcantara/cloth seats, but I am preferential to leather. My last car (94 Honda Prelude) had a beautiful black leather interior, and I love the way black conceals the occasionally less than spotlessly clean interior that we have to live with from time to time. However, living in the Sacramento valley, with its high summertime temperatures, I really couldn't tolerate the heat of another black interior. So, I opted for the Sand Leather, with black cube trim. I must say that I am very impressed with the way it looks!

Due to my rather long decision process, I had the pleasure to work with both Danny Andrade and Mark Hugret. They both worked very diligently to answer my many questions and ensure that I was comfortable with my purchasing decision. Danny really got me hooked by emailing pictures of a car that he had in stock, which was very similar to what I was looking for. Even after I knew which car I wanted and with whom I wanted to work, I had several obstacles to overcome. Things like convincing my family that I really needed a new car, selling my old car, etc.... This process took quite a while and subsequently when I called to place my order Danny was on vacation. Seamlessly, Mark stepped in and kept everything moving. Danny and Mark performed flawlessly as a team, and I believe BMW Concord has done a wonderful job in providing them the tools and training required to enable them to work as effectively as they did.

In all of my automotive purchases, I have never experienced such a pleasant transaction. From the very beginning I was quoted only one price, which was lower than any of the competing dealerships. That price, and the terms associated with it, never changed. Furthermore, there was no haggling and no unexpected additions to the purchase transaction. This is something that I greatly appreciated, and a
practice that more dealerships would do well to adopt.

As I waited for my car to be built and shipped I watched its progress on the BMW Owners Circle web site - a very nice tool! Whenever I grew impatient with the waiting, I would call Danny or Mark. They were always more than happy to keep me updated on the cars progress and to answer any additional questions that came up.

Once the car finally arrived and it was time to take delivery, again I found the staff at BMW Concord to be exceptional! Since I had to do quite a bit of sweet talking to convince my wife that I really needed a new car, and that my new car had to be something as expensive as a Bimmer, I had asked Danny if it would be possible for him to do anything to make the pickup a memorable experience. He said he'd see what he could do....

After an hour and half drive to the dealership, my wife and I walked into the showroom and were awestruck by the site of a shiny, Imola red, car sitting on the showroom floor, my new car! What a spectacular treat! We were greeted by a very courteous salesman who directed us to Danny and Marks office. After meeting Mark face to face for the first time, we were offered refreshments, and guided through the paperwork, which was exactly as Danny and Mark said it would be, with no hidden charges or surprises. Then we were introduced to Ivette and given an orientation of the car and all of its features. Per my request, they left the front license plate bracket in the trunk. They even put floor mats in the car, at no charge, without me having to ask for them. Finally, we had the pleasure of driving my new BMW off of the showroom floor.

I still get an ear-to-ear grin every time I think about my new car, and the first class treatment that we received. The entire experience was phenomenal! If you are shopping for a BMW in the Northern California area, I very enthusiastically recommend that you speak to Danny or Mark, at BMW Concord.

Well, the weekend is almost here, the car has a full tank, and I've got several more break-in miles to go...

Happy motoring,
Wayne.

Congrats on the car!! Another ZHP'er !

Your experience makes me wish I lived in CA just to deal with Concord - sounds like they are the model dealership.

A promising post! The only negative part is that I still have another month to wait for my ZHP, and that makes it even tougher! :P

I know what you mean, Mod. I love to hear about others excitement in getting their "baby".

wag-zhp, I hope your excitment never fades. I've had mine what is now going on 2 months and i'm as excited every day when I take it for a ride (even if it's just to work) as I was the day I picked it up. Good Luck and welcome!

Did I say that?

Slight OT Detour: I guess it comes from my typing in British.

I should explain: I moved to the UK for work in 1993 from NoVa. My wife and I lived there five years, acquired a British car, a British dog, and had a kid (the kid is American ) During this time I worked with the Royal Navy on a project. After that we moved to Orlando, where I worked extensively on a project for the British Army. Nowadays, my group is involved in international projects specialising in, you guessed it, the UK.

That's why at our house we fill up with Petrol, put stuff in the boot, apply tyre dressing, organise ourselves, etc... Just force of habit

Looks like you got Pilots. The Pilot tread definitely looks more aggressive than the Bridgestones (mine came with Bridgestones).

Yep, they're Michelen Pilots. I like them so far, very nice grip, but with only two weeks worth of driving on them I have no idea how long they'll hold up.

Thumbs up I agree: Concord BMW - Great Internet Sales Team

Hi everyone. Just wanted to add my comments agreeing that working with Mark @ Concord BMW was a real pleasure for me recently. When I first called round to various dealers for a specific configuration (Black/330ci/ZHP/Black Leather) the responses I got ranged from no call back ... to fairly uninvolved sales staff ... up to a few that looked at some other dealers in nearby cities ... and topping out with Mark Hugret @ Concord who answered all my questions patiently, searched all 9 western states for my desired combo of color & options - then even searched the delivery docks and pending shipments for me when he couldn't find it sitting on a lot anywhere. Then he pulled out his digital camera and took a half-dozen pictures of a similar car (on his lot) to what I wanted. Sent them by email within a half hour of our conversation, and great pictures. Wow!

When I chose to hold out for the black leather interior - he couldn't have been nicer about continuing his search and didn't try to steer me towards whatever he had in stock. I couldn't believe the great response, after waiting days for another BMW dealer that never called back after two contacts from me.

The best thing was their flat price - no haggling for an internet sale. Simple, fast, and fair to both the buyer and his dealership. Look at invoice ... add a small window of profit ... and taa-daah. How refreshing was that???

I also purchased by 330Ci from Concord, and they have a great staff. The only real killer is the sales tax. I figure if you were willing to go to California, why not go to Oregon and save $2000+?
