F01 - Best Selling 7 Ever

Just a little tidbit of news regarding BMW sales numbers. According to BMW:

"The current BMW 7 Series reached a new milestone in March with a total of over 200,000 vehicles sold since its introduction at the end of 2008. This makes it the best performing BMW 7 Series ever, reaching around 20% higher sales than its predecessors in the same period of time."

That's certainly good news and, I would say, well-deserved. Thanks for sharing!

It is clearly better looking then it's predecessor. I could never figure that design out. Looked like a committee car (something Obama Motors might design)..

Not so sure about that...

Any one knows how it compares with current MB S class? (factoring in its year of production/sales to baseline)

Between the E32, E38 and F01, it's very difficult to say which 7 er design I like best. Some say the E38 is supreme, which I totally understand. But while the E32 seems most true to form, I feel the F01 will be one of those Mercedes-Benz W140-like productions that will be sought out long after it's gone. Large and imposing, with minimal expense spared (though, baring a spare). I feel the same about the F10 and its lineage...

The e65 is by far a better looking car - the new 7 looks like a stretched 5, and I still believe the F10 5 was really designed first and released after the 7, as it fits its skin so much better proportionally. Im hoping for some design changes before looking to replace my e65 with an F01, or I could see myself in a 5 instead. My .02.

F10 doesn't look as beastly as the F01. I like the big flat snaut on the front. The car reminds me of some kind of shark. F10 is sleek but it's kind of girly in my opinion. Seems all of the germans are going the feminine route. Anyone see the lights on the back of the new cls?

you know TBH, I liked the previous version when it was the current as well. The bangel butt was stylish in its day. The old 7 certainly had better trunk room than this version.

F01 was pened prior to the F10 and heavily influenced by the Concept CS, especially its front: http://www.netcarshow.com/bmw/2007-concept_cs/

I wonder if the difference is due to China. Meaning all the traditional markets, like Europe and North America remained the same (or dropped) and the explosive growth was made up with new Chinese sales.

Per wikipedia, in 2010:
65,814 - worldwide
12,253 - USA
26,553 - China

Also it seems that in the USA, the F01/02/04 has never outsold the E65/66 in any full production calendar year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_7_S...tion_and_sales. There'll probably be a lot of Chinese input into the next 7 series.

Interesting - the 7 looks so much like a stretched 5 I would have never guessed it was designed first.

It was the F01/02 that got me thinking that I might want to own a 7 when, at the time, I was driving the most enjoyable car of my life...an M6 convertible. It doesn't matter to me that people may confuse the 7 with the 5, or vice-versa; as they say, imitation is the highest form of flattery. Tastes vary. What sums it up for me, if we're talking about cars, is that it returns the favor every time I turn it on.

I never considered a 7 till the current Gen, I would get this car just for the looks along.

No, the 5 looks like a shrunken 7.
