Dinan Sale?

I am planning to install the Dinan S2 software in the 550i xdrive in the next few weeks and was wondering if anyone knows when Dinan usually runs their 15-20% off sale? I don't really want to be waiting for months, but if someone knows there is a sale next month, I won't mind waiting. Thanks!

I'm surprised that Dinan hasn't had a sale yet. Maybe they are practicing price discipline.

Last year there was a sale in Jan-Feb and another September-October.

Who knows! Given how popular the Dinan upgrade is among people on this forum, it may enhance resale value.

I talked to the folks at Dinan yesterday and was told there were no plans to offer any discounts any time soon, since they were getting plenty of S2 550 software upgrade business already. Not sure if they would have said anything even if a discount WAS imminent - why give people a reason to wait on an upgrade, I suppose. Still waiting on pulling the trigger, but my willpower is weakening....

You should just do it. Remember, you are losing months of usage of the upgrade, for a $500 savings. If you keep your car 3 years, and you wait 1 year to do the tuning, then the amortized cost of the upgrade over the months you used it is actually higher than if you had just bought it at the beginning for the higher price. i.e. $3000 amortized over 24 months, is a higher monthly cost than $3500 amortized over 36 months.

I probably will get the upgrade over the next several months or so. I really like the car and was planning on keeping it a lot longer than 3 years, so was concerned about extended warranty issues. Since there probably won't be any clarity on that for a number of years, i.e., until the 2011 550s come out of factory warranty, it is no longer much of a concern to me at this point. Since I have not yet purchased the extended warranty, the smarter play seems to be to get the software upgrade now and see where things are 3 years from now from an extended warranty standpoint.

At that time, I may trade it for something else, or keep it and make the extended warranty decision at that time. I have no intention of actually racing my car, but like the idea of having the extra power in reserve if/when I might need it. I also find myself agreeing with the Dinan folks that if something is going to malfunction due to the upgrade, it will much more likely be within the first year (covered) than afterwards.

I have noticed a very slight delay when I need instant power at either low or higher speeds and I believe the software upgrade will probably take care of that as well. Once it kicks in, especially at higher speed passing, I find myself in triple digits very quickly(3-4 seconds) without realizing it. Its always been enjoyable to leave highway traffic, especially those left lane plodders, way back in the rear view mirror - I've just never been able to do it so quickly and easily until now... The AWD is just icing on the cake, especially in corners.

I too am patiently waiting for the sale to pounce on the S2 software. I was told by an authorized Dinan dealer that a sale is imminent; however, I've decided to have the software installed by no later than June with or without the discount. I'd love to have that extra power at my disposal for the summer!

Just got the stage II. It is worth every penny and transform the car from a fast car into an absolute monster. Every single person who's gotten in my car has gasped and become silent when I floored the accelerator. The acceleration that 580 foot pounds of torque produces is astonishing

I called Dinan last week and they said they have no plans for a sale coming up so I ended up getting it done on Friday. Of course they have no incentive to tell me there's a sale coming up, but I thought it couldn't hurt asking. I recommend you just get the upgrade done sooner than later. Gives you more time to enjoy it.

The dealer can alway take 20-30% off the list. My SA told me whenever I'm ready. I want to test drive before I buy.

Interesting - please let us know if that actually happens - I haven't heard that dealers have this leeway.

I couldn't wait any longer, so I'm sitting at the local shop waiting for the software to upload. Can't wait to test it out.

You guys are making me nuts. I really want to do this, but I'm really on the fence waiting to be pushed over to the other side. I really wish my dealer was a Dinan dealer because I have a great relationship with them. ARGGGGGGH.

My dealer IS a Dinan dealer and from talking with them today, they agreed to give me a bit of a price break whenever I bring my car in. They have also had no problems and are installing the BMW software upgrade system-wide in their shop, actually tonite.

I've decided to also have the oil changed when I do this - under 5000 miles, but want to remove any stray metallic particles that the filter might not have caught during break-in. Mine will be done by the end of June at the latest, according to plan.
