Plasti Dip or Vinyl Wrap
Hey guys, I am in a small confusion. For my 7 series grills and other trip pieces, i want to have them in matte black. I have 2 options, the new stuff called Plastidip or vinyl wrap them in flat black. i heard plasti dip is very cheap and easily removable so iam confused between those 2. What do you guys suggest?

What about paint? My grill is painted and is still perfect, even after running into a bush or two.

All exterior chrome, roof, roof spoiler and everything behind wheels painted black, wing, side and rear reflectors and door handle trim painted white, light smoke on tail lights. Audio: focal separates, earthquake low profile subs under front seats (crossed over as mid base to support the tiny 4" fronts), arc audio amps, audiocontrol lcq-1 and epicenter, (2) L7 subs.

painting is fine but i wanted something reversible in the future incase i want it back to stock.

plastidip has been around for ever - I used it to dip tool handles. I'm not certain it is UV resistant - might deteriorate quickly in hot sun

for paint, I was quoted $300 for the rear trunk lid strip alone....pull the strip....prime.....paint.....clear, etc.
I have shadowline trim so the chrome looks terrible to me. the vinyl wrap I got was from bmwshadowline.com. it is gloss and looked like crap....all kinds of imperfections and bumps. pulled it off the car. any help on better vinyl or better ideas for painting where they don't have to pull the whole trunk apart to remove the strip? help!

Try the dip, if it looks bad you can always peel it off. It's probably a pain in the ass to wrap a grill but you can always try that next. Usually i paint my grills at my body shot. Charges about 40-50 bucks

Vinyl will start peeling off the grill in 1-2 months.

I just got these for mine... they look really good. havent installed them yet but they are a nice satin/matte finish.

I've read good things about PlastiDip, try it, worst case, remove it - no harm, no foul. I don't buy into the hype that just because you drive a 7 it means that you must do everything professionally. On all of my cars, including both of my Ms, I have done things myself to give it that personal touch. I'll do the same when our 7 arrives!
