Congrats! Alpine White is still my favorite color for the X5M.

I've moved to the 2013 X5M from a 2011 STi Hatch and the M is practical to me... but the MPG's are very impractical.

I laugh every time I tell somebody how many MPG's I get, I thought the STi was bad for a little hatch at Avg. 18mpg.

Had the M for about a month now and love it, a lot more fun and excitement than the STi.

I've driven '08&'13 Porsche Cayenne Turbo's and plenty of other sport cars, but for an everyday car the X5M I think is the best choice of performance and usability.

What mileage are you getting? I have no trouble getting 17 in mixed driving with periodic use of the fun button.
Love it for all of its amazing versatility.

I'm only getting about 12-14mpg on Premium gas all the time.

Maybe my driving involves too much throttle, but there is too much fun in that to save the mpgs

The driving experience and sitting up high in this beast is truly a unique experience.

What's funny is that coming from an X5 50i into the X5M you feel as though you are much lower. You are, a bit, but it feels almost as though you are in an M5 driving position in terms of height. I love it even though a subtle change from my prior.

It's all relative depending on where you come from.

My previous car was a '11 STi hatch, so the M sits a lot higher than that.

It is hilarious how fun it is to swap it into sport and push the M button. As if a totally different car appears instantly. The sound and the fury is just fantastic.
Practically impractical and could not have been a better choice.

How is your ownership experience with your x5m in terms of reliability and maintenance. I have recently purchased a pre owned x5m 2010(64k miles). I would love to hear your advice. Any major problems that you have faced.

Thanks

My question is whether I should wait for the new 2014 model update from the current platform or go with a 2013 sitting on the lot as we speak? I'd hate to buy one only to see a bigger, better, faster model immediately after. Thoughts? Opinions?

Care to chime in Mr. Dunderhi???

Do you still own this beauty. Would you like to relay your experience about reliability. Any serious problem so far. I believe we lack a thread where each x5m owner should share reliability experience about their ownership

Two days at Thunderhill in Willows, Calif. and six days at Laguna Seca in Monterey. Once I had it on the track one weekend and at Lake Tahoe in 3 feet of snow for a ski trip the next weekend. What a versatile vehicle!

A move to more practicality came about when I was accepted in January to be one of the 700 "Electronauts" for the 2-year test of the new BMW ActiveE all-electric vehicle, which I have had for 2 months and is now my daily driver.

So I traded-in the X5M and ordered an M3 (a more proper track car) which is crossing the Atlantic on the ship from Germany now.

The X5M was the most practical, impractical car I've ever owned. I miss it.

I was thrilled to hear your experience. Do you need to have any professional license to drive on laguna seca and thunderhills. Any quirks in terms of Reliability and maintenance in your ownership. I feel the need of a post/ thread where everyone should chime in with their ownership experience

Make sure that the driveshaft is check in the X year 2011-2014. BMW has had this problem with the driveshaft dating back to 2001. This blows my mind that BMW will allow people to drive around for even one day with this problem!!! This sure sounds like another class action lawsuit against BMW.
