Diesel Refueling, Please help.

I see the springy thing here in Fla as well. Maybe it's a southern thing?

I can only get the nozzle in about 2 inches. I haven't had a fuel spill in ages. Just takes practice.

Aaron, I believe that's a TX thing to surround the nozzle with spring. I hate that crap too ! I have yet to find a nozzle that will insert all the way into fuel tank like its petrol counterparts.

But the issue only happens on my BMW which is why I even notice it.

Not quite!
I also find them in some stations here in Toronto, Canada.

I have to be more careful when inserting the pump to not get the spring into the opening of my ML or TDI or it's a pain to wiggle it out after I'm done!

Practice? I just put the nozzle in the car, set it to full blast, read emails, pump clicks off, record gallons pumped and cost into my phone, put phone in pocket, put nozzle up, put fuel cap back on, close fuel door, and drive off.

I think people are over complicating a simple thing.

Don't think so...but to open the DEF filler cap, you just pull out the screwdriver shaft and use the fwd part of the handle inserted into the DEF filler cap and turn.

I'm late to the party. Yes, that works for me. The reason is some nozzles are not perfectly round and are bended at certain angle. I always try first to wiggle vertically ( up & down ). If it doesn't work then twisting 180 degrees usually solves the problem.

Ok the twist worked!!! I couldnt do 180. More like 30-45 degrees then it slipped in. Once in I could move it back to normal resting position.

So I shot an email to my sales guy that I bought from explaining to him that my vehicle was missing a "safety feature" aka diesel shower adapter, and inquired weather it was supposed to be delivered with the vehicle of if he could direct me to his parts guy for replacement.

Saturday, a box shows up with the adapter delivered by fedex. So now I have one! Not sure i should be thrilled with that fact, but hey, peace of mind right?

I occasionally run into fueling stations that have the incorrect nozzle on their diesel pump. The incorrect ones are always the size of an unleaded gasoline nozzle. This sized nozzle is too small to push both of the detents in the fuel filler neck at the same time, so the misfueling prevention tab is not released. What always works for me is to whip out my trusty pocket knife, insert the nozzle and press it against the detent on one side of the neck, and use the knife blade to push the detent on the opposite side of the neck. The tab pops open and the nozzle goes all the way in. You could use a screwdriver or any long thin device, but I always have my pocket knife with me so that's what I use. With a little practice it's quick and easy, but not as easy as the stations putting the correct nozzles on in the first place.
