Emails/SMS in BMW328i
Can anyone help me... I just received my 2012 BMW 328i an I was told I would be able to receive emails and SMS to the car.. I have not been able to get either to work.. I dnt even know if this actually works..
I have an iPhone 4 and using the USB Cable.. I will take any insight that anyone could provide. |

I think he's referring to the cradle, which as far as I know only adds the antenna boosting and video out features to the iPhone.

Yes, I am referring to the snap-in. As far as I know, from the demo videos I have seen, if you have BMW apps, you can simply plug the iPhone in via USB (instead of using the snap-in) to take advantage of the phone apps integration.

So spending $250 will not give you Mobile Office even if the iPhone supported the MAP profile -which it doesn't. Mobile Office is part of the enhanced Bluetooth feature (Combox), which it is part of the BMW Assist option. So there's no extra charge for Mobile Office other than the cost of the BMW Assist option. Now and apart from the discussion of this thread, there's no need for the snap in to use BMW Apps. It will work fine thru the Apple white USB cable except the video feature, antenna routing and full charging. And for all that the snap in will be required at extra charge. That really sucks. How is the system based off apple but the most popular phone out there doesn't even work with the system.. What a let down... That's probably the coolest future being that they h e cracked down on cellphone usage while driving.. Hope they figure a way to add this function soon.

The problem affects ALL cars with this capability (Ford Sync, etc), not just BMWs. |

B.S. they can't do it. Sending is no problem. Receiving just requires that you replicate what's going to the car with your real number.

Until apple supports the right profile no one can do a full implementation of what is possible with android or blackberry.

Not possible with iPhone. You should've read the fine print.
All BBs, some Androids, and a couple WP7 phones support it.

There's nothing in the apple hardware that should prevent it frome being done, at least with the iPhone 4 and 4S. Apple just needs to add the software support.

Yup, Apple does not offer the correct BT Profile (MAP) support
