The order was placed through Bavaria BMW in Edmonton.

Tangsta, I would sure like to get to the bottom of this - you placed your order in Feb., probably for a 2013 model and are probably going to get it at the same time I get mine if not sooner. Something is not quite right here, unless what the GM said is true and they couldn't get anymore 2012s.

The dealer's GM phoned to tell me that he has a rail car number so he knows the X3 has been shipped and that he expects it at the dealership around May 18, so roughly 6 months after it was ordered. I'll keep you posted when it arrives.

Have they offered you any compensation at this point, Norm? Glad to hear it really is finally coming but you definitely got shafted and they owe you. Push them to send you to the Performance Center for the 101 Experience at the very least and in your case the dealer should buy your plane tickets, too, IMO.

I hope they do something for you! You could have hitchiked down, build the car yourself, driven it back and gotten it through HM Customs and been enjoying it for three months instead of this delay. You will be getting the new engine which is supposed to be very fuel efficient with lots of power anyway. Good luck and let us know when you actually do get the car and what, if anything, the dealership does for you.

Is Alberta that remote it takes so long to get a car up there? According to Norm's last post he was supposed to have gotten his car Friday (18th).

Picked up my car yesterday, Norm! It was worth the wait.

Hopefully you have yours now.

May 18th came and went with no X3, the sales guy phoned me on the 16th to say soon but not yet, and the GM I've been dealing with has left the dealership.

I'm at the same dealership... ordered mine in early Feb and it just arrived. Waiting on PDI, then I get to pick it up

I was originally told it was scheduled for late April prod, and last week of May delivery.
But then in late Apr my CA said it was already built, on it's way up, and to expect it in the first week of May... then it got pushed to second week, then they told me they didn't know where it was, and finally it's here.

Apparently they've had quite a delay in shipping, with 21 X3's backlogged.
Hope yours comes in soon.

Very interesting, February to May is quite a bit different than November to who knows - I think Bavaria BMW has some explaining to do... When I was talking to the GM before he left Bavaria's employ he said that the X3s had been a "pain in the ass" with much lower availability in Canada than expected and far below demand, but that still doesn't explain why you got yours before me.

Will wonders never cease. Just received an email from the dealer's sales manager to tell me the X3, a 2013 model, will hit the dealership tomorrow May 23 - 6-1/2 months after ordering a 2012 model in November 2011. He says it will be going in for PDI on Thursday and I should be able to take delivery this weekend or early next week.

I'll keep you all posted.

Norm, good news! That one has been like the gestation period of an elephant! Amazing how hard it is to get a car up there. The X3's are stacking up on the dealer lots here on the west coast. Of course to get a Q5 or V6 Cayenne -- then prepare to wait and pay! No deals on those.

Rest assured as soon as I take delivery pictures will be forthcoming, but if you are so untrusting how do you know I just didn't snap a picture of a random X3 in a parking lot somewhere?

hmm, very good point... I guess you'll just have to get a signed affidavit sealed by the Crown. .

Funny how they are stacking up there but you can't even find one on the lot here. Our local dealer hasn't had one to test drive in 3 months. Even when I bought mine, I was only able to test drive one at a driving event they held.

Want, They probably sell more new BMW's just in the SF Bay area then they do in the whole state up there. So, the allocations are much more generous. Other than that I can only think the dealers there are not ordering many X3's for their floor plan.

He's calling BS on the dealer, not you. Seriously, they should pay you interest on your deposit by now.

No way I would accept delivery of that vehicle if it wasnt show room perfect. I am betting it was damaged in transport and is getting repaired.

If you get it. Go over it with a fine tooth comb. Every angle, every function, everything. Make them go over it with you so they cant claim you did it later.

If they wont do that I would refuse delivery. It is the very least they can do at this point.

Norm, if at all possible pick it up in the daylight! The sun will highlight any questionable body issues (like a respray, repair) that artificial light just will not show. As Evl suggests be sure to take your time and go over it on the outside with a careful and critical eye. You will be hot to go after all that time, but force yourself to be diligent and critical. This thing took way too long to get up there, and there may be a reason for that delay!

Might be the allocation. I ordered my vehicle in Feb, but delayed until April 01 for the 2013 model. The car was ready 2 weeks ago or 6 weeks after my finalized order. The dealer might have forgotten your 2012 order and BMW closed mfg. the old model, likely placed on the waiting list for 2013 when the system reopened on April 01. There is no excuse for the mistakes and given the heavy vehicle demand, little compensation. Most dealership earn 4-7% markup, the money is from the service. Advise them you're going somewhere else for servicing unless they offer compensation.
