E83 intermittently clicking on ignition and crunching clutch

Hi all,

My 56 plate E83 (110000 miles on clock) has developed two problems in the last few days:

1) It intermittently just clicks when we turn the ignition. It will do this once or twice and then start fine.

2) When in neutral, if I depress / release the clutch, at a certain position it makes a crunching sound. It also does this when both the brake and clutch are depressed.

For context, we recently burned the clutch hard getting it over a ramp it got stuck on, so I'm thinking this is related to the clutch problem - but this clutch issue didn't start straight after the clutch burning incident.

Any thoughts?

Some semi-educated guesses:
  1. If you're battery is old (3+ years), it could be just that it's close to dead. If it's newer, it could still be close to death because of a defective cell. Have the battery load tested.
  2. A bad throw-out bearing will make some grinding/rattling/crunching noises. Or it could be that the clutch material ablated shortly after your hard-use incident and is rattling around inside the housing.
Hope this helps.
