7 Series - E65 / E66 (2002 - 2008)
Discussion of BMW's 4th generation E65/E66 7 Series flagship. The E65 generated much controversy, due to its radical styling and iDrive user difficulties. Nonetheless, the E65 broke records to become the best-selling 7-series iteration ever, especially after its 2005 facelift.

760 will not crank/start need help!!

any help appreciated because any work done on this car usually costs a down payment on another vehicle but anyways the car will not crank it sounds like the high pressure fuel pumps are working but as i push the start button it just attempts to crank but something is up like it doesnt seem as if its getting proper fuel injection to give it any fire to crank up. I had a fuel intake manifold replaced a couple months ago and I noticed the camshaft sensor was malfunctioning but i ignored the problem. Hope that has nothing to do with it cranking because it was idling high and rough after the dealership did the fuel leak repair which included replacing the whole fuel intake system but anyone else had cranking/starting problems on their 760? mine is 2008 v12 760

So which one is it, does it crank or does it not crank? Your subject title states no crank, but based on your statement it appears it cranks but no start. If it's the later, it could be your fuel pump that is out. Might want to check and see if you hear pump go on when you press the start button.

I think we have a vocabulary problem. When I say the car doesn't crank, I mean it won't turn over - as if the starter is broken. Trying to start a car that won't crank wouldn't make the battery go dead like you describe, so I'm guessing the car turns over but doesn't start. That's usually the SBSR module.

Btw; you cannot hear the high pressure fuel pumps. But you might be able to hear the in tank fuel pump which is a normal pump like everyone else, and fairly cheap. The car has three pumps. Two high pressure and one regular fuel pump

called bmw and spoke w/ Service Advisor and he claims he would bet money it is the camshaft sensor which was a fault they did not clearl last time while the car was having a fuel intake manifold repair done which was a huge deal but why not replace the sensors if the systems was showing a fault. Obviously until this sensor is replaced the car is not going to crank so now i have a huge dilemma being the dealership is 2 hours away and i cannot find a local mechanic to work on the v12. I will search for a DIY thread for replacing these sensors hope its not a hard task but seems like everything is a hard task on this v12 engine.

OK
(grouch mode on)

here's one thing I cannot abide about the internet. Standard car repairs are NOT meant for documentation on the net. There's a service DVD you can buy on Ebay. It's called TIS, or will just be called BMW service manual. It's cheap. and if your dealer is 2 hours away, you need it.

it has all the steps you need to do this job.

I feel the internet is a perfect place to take pics and document say: you doing the job using TIS and you find that half the steps are not covered, or there are some time-saving tips and tricks you learned. That is a perfect thing to cover on the net. Not standard repairs that are documented in a fashion all the rest of us already understand and know.

I have a 2004 the other night it shut down while driving. I tried to crank it back up and it just wouldn't start. Had to get it towed home. When I got home from work the next day I checked all the fuses and all of them were ok. Then I tried to start it and it started right up. Weirded situation but I still want drive it because I don't trust it. Will take it to repair shop to be checked. What do you think this could be?dunno:
