335i exhaust question

My new 335i has about 800 miles on it now and I am a little puzzled at the exhaust system. Not sure if this is normal or if there is a problem. At times it sounds as if there is exhaust coming from the engine compartment. Sounds like it is coming from the passenger side of the engine compartment underneath near the firewall.

You hear it most when the car is started up cold and the idle is high. It's a muffled sound, similar to the tailpipe. Strange.... you don't hear it nearly as much from the top side of the engine compartment when looking in with the hood open. I can't pinpoint it from the bottom because the car is so low to the ground. I think it's always been this way but I didn't really pay much attention to it until my wife was backing out of the garage.

The car sounds awesome when you're into the throttle.....but quite frankly, at low rev's it sounds like crap and I think this is partly why. I know there is an exhaust valve on the left tail pipe, which makes it sound a little strange from the rear at low revs, but what could be going on further up at or near the engine compartment?....weird!

Thanks

I doubt there is anything wrong. Could it just be the acoustics in your garage?

Thanks for the reply Tim.

I do hear it outside the garage as well...or maybe it's more noticeable now, you know how once you become focused on something it then becomes all you hear. I think the Garage just makes it that much more noticeable.

I took a closer look (listen) with the hood open yesterday. Standing on the passenger side leaning over, you can hear it coming up from the exhaust, just can't pinpoint what it is or exactly where it's coming from.

It's worth taking in then. They should be able to tell you instantly if it's not right.
