Angry driving annnd.. I can't change gears?!?

So I'm driving on the highway and I go to change to 5th gear and it just throws itself forward. It just moves around freely so I pulled over (bad move) to see if anything is hanging or anything, there's nothing. I shake the shifter some more and think " you got to be ******* me, my shifter is broken". I'm stuck in 4th gear .. So I take off slowly, knowing I'm eating my clutch, my flex disk is bad (new one coming in some time this week), and I'm cruising down the shoulder of the highway trying to get some speed. When I get home, I start pulling everything apart and notice I can see the selector rod but nothing on the end of it, just a little rod sticking out for the side. I'm going to look from the bottom but I'm pretty sure I know what the problem, I just wanted to share. Do you think I should go ahead and put a short shifter on it, honestly I've never seen a short shifter but I think I already have one.

This is where I am talking about

Is this a short shifter?

lol ouch, at least nothing was damaged (too bad) in the process. Buy new clips so that it doesn't happen again

This happened to me...I was getting off the freeway down shifting from 4th to 3rd and my shifter just got lose all of a sudden..I knew right away it was not anything major like a broken tranny...I pulled over I was under the bridge, jacked up the car and it was the shifter's pin that had snapped out...picked up 2 of them at the junk yard

Dealer might have it, but a regular auto parts store won't.
