My planned route home from PCD 5/14-5/15

So here's what I'm thinking....

Sunday May 13 Leave Indianapolis airport on a 2:20pm flight and arrive at 7:52pm at GSP airport (transferring in ATL). Shuttle to the Greenville Marriott.
dinner there and a scotch and off to bed.

Monday May 14 - this is my delivery day so I'll do all that. Pick up my new car.
leave PCD around 3:00pm or so and head out. Will take route 276 up towards Waynesville NC. Will stop for dinner. Chef's Table? I think that's the one that has been recommended here. Should arrive there around 5-5:30pm or so. Then I'll drive to Bryson City NC and stay at the Microtel Inn. That's about a 40 minute drive so I'll get there around 8-8:30pm. Spend the night there. This hotel was the only halfway decent (that wasn't a 1960s lodge or campground) close to the Tail. It's a chain hotel and is pretty modern so that was a plus for me. The Microtel in Robbinsville looks a bit dated.

Tuesday May 15 Get up around 6:30-7:00am. Breakfast at hotel and hit the road for Tail of the Dragon. Should hit the start of it around 8:00am or so. Drive that from the south going north. Drive through Knoxville, TN and Lexington, KY on the way to Frankfort, KY for a stop at Buffalo Trace Distillery. I'm a huge whisky fan (just toured 20 distilleries over spring break in Scotland) so I haven't been to this one. I'm not a bourbon fan, but I can appreciate this one. Should arrive here around lunch time 12:30pm or so. Look around the shop. Maybe a tour (I've been on many tours...not much difference in them but if one's going on at the time I'll do it). Then I'll hit the road and head home to Zionsville IN. Should be home around 5:30pm that evening for dinner with the wife and son. I'll definitely have a gift for them. I always do when I travel.

Wednesday May 16 Drive my new car to work day!

Thoughts, comments and criticisms or additions welcome.

The Greenville Marriott is in a dry County -- they don't serve alcohol of any kind on Sundays. If you are going to have that scotch, you might want to bring a few of those miniature airline bottles on the airline with you, since they are less than 3 oz.

If you want wine with dinner, they will let you BYOB and provide corkage, free of charge.

Enjoy your PCD. Too bad your wife can't join you.
