Steering wheel tilt adjustment on a 87/m6 ?

I may be missing something here?,driving my new to me 1987 m6 and the steering wheel seams a little high ,is the no tilt on these models just telescopic?That is all I can see and checked the owners manual and no talk of tilt adjustment.

Seat goes up and down instead of the wheel.

I was surprised the E24s didn't have a tilt wheel, too. I mean, it was the top of the luxury touring/sport coupe market in it's day, and had a million adjustments for everything else, but no tilt wheel? My 85 pickup had a tilt wheel, for pete's sake.

I am going to try and make up some shim plates and bring the wheel down a bit 1/2", The way it is now makes me feel like I am driving a bus.

Did you ever make shims and lower your steering column. Curious to know how it worked out...considering doing the same....

Have not had the M6 out in awhile,but every time I get behind the wheel I have the need to lower the wheel.Thank you for the reminder ,will let you know how we make out on lowering (once you leave the BMW you forget about it) ,have my 86 635CSI to do as well . After the lowering the steering wheel will work on the power windows going all the way down

How about getting a 13" or even a 12" steering wheel....

Sorry, I can't help you.I had two BMW sport wheels and yhet are recently sold. If I remember correctly, your car is a pre 82 and has a coarse splined steering shaft. The BMW sport s wheels to fit that are rare. Maybe if you don't care, you should go after market. A decent coarse splined BMW s wheel will cost you between $150-$200

I did lower the steering column just shy of a 1/2" (acually 6 - 5/16" washers glued together to make a spacer) and it changed the position of the wheel dramatically. Sooo much more comfortable and consistant with todays driving positions.
