Rim repair, possible?

I noticed the other day that one wheel has a bent area where the bead of the the tire seats. I have not hit any potholes, so I assume it was previous owner damage.
The question, can this be fixed or do I need to find a wheel?

Without a detailed picture its hard to know how bad. If the wheel is holding air - then that's good. However, I would be also be concerned that the wheel might be bent. One way to figure this out is to have the wheel road-force balanced. Look for a road force of 20-30 lbs. Lower #'s are better. If you get a high reading then the wheel and/or tire is probably damaged. Although I have had wheels straightened over the years - its only cost effective if the wheel is slightly our of round. Since the cost to straighten is at least $100 (plus the PIA to dismount the tire and get the wheel to them and back) and the cost of a new wheel is perhaps about $400, you might just go for a new wheel if you really have a problem. If the cost to straighten involves a heat treatment it will damage the paint and then you have some more cost. This is why I have pretty much given up on straightening.

Thanks for the info, I was curious how much repair vs replacement would be.
The damage looks like pothole or curb, with the bead area bent and hard to tell if it is out of round, the tire holds air fine.
I found a set of used 19's with tires mounted and bought them, I will keep the original wheels and tires for winter use. I may still find another used 17 or get the one fixed at some point.
