Route 66 Warranty

I'm still thinking about purchasing this warranty and was curious if any of you have had positive/negative experiences submitting a claim.

Thanks!

I've had one from Route 66 for about six months. They denied one claim, for an O2 sensor. Their first reaction to another claim, it was for some kind of transmission pan, was that it was a wear item, I guess it is to be replaced at 105k miles or something. But my mechanic said their attitude was that Route 66 was working to find a way to pay for it. In the end they paid like $600 and I paid $300 (for fluids and stuff). I haven't used the roadside assistance or rental car reimbursement. Frankly, I find the lack of information on their website annoying, but my mechanic deals with them and it seems to be ok so far.

BTW, I've got a 2005 545i.

No claims yet on Route 66...

All warranty companies are insurance companies - which means their job is to always question whether the claim is covered and if they have to pay.

If I never have to use them in the next 57 months, I'll be pissed that I "wasted" money - which is a chance I'll take.

Hope things work out for all of us Route 66 buyers!

Good luck!

I disagree. If u dont use it in the next 57 months, that's a blessing. Means ur BMW was very reliable.

Based on my service history (see below) I'm betting I'll be using the warranty. If not, it will be a miracle. However maybe all the "gremlins" are worked out now.

I tend to agree that these are insurance policies and if I do not have a claim, I would be a happy camper. I still think the extended warranty is better than certified, for one particular experince I had with my 2011 328xi when my navigation blew up and the RO was in excess of $3K. Certified does not cover electronics like Nav or radio. Many extended warranties do.

Did you end up going with the Route 66 warranty? I am currently mulling between the route 66 easy street and the carchex ultimate coverage. Both are similar, but the Carchex is about $600 more even after you factor in the additional oil changes with the route 66. However, the carchex has a higher limit of liability.

Haven't purchased yet. Still scouring for more feedback. At this point, I'm leaning towards just pocketing the money and using a highly rated indy.

Your thoughts

Has anyone used or know of EasyCare. My dealer is recommending this company. Seems a little steep at over $3000

I purchased a 2004 545i last year that had four months left on an EasyCare bumper to bumper warranty with a $50 deductible.

Used it twice.

First time was the day I picked up the car (New Years Eve) while bringing it home. The coolant expansion tank split while on the road. Had to stay two nights in a hotel waiting for a dealership to open (wasn't sure I could drive it - found out later it probably would have been safe but you definitely do not want to overheat the aluminum engine!)
Easy Care paid for repairs plus two nights in hotel, minus the $50 deductible.
This was a reimbursement to me since Easy Care offices were closed Jan 2 and I had to pay the dealer up front.

Second time I used the warranty was when the iDrive screen was flickering. Previous owner had complained of screen flickering also, but dealer could never replicate condition.
Before warranty was up I first had an Indie clean the harness connectors to see if it was just a bad connection. Still flickered so I took a video, showing the screen flickering and that day's newspaper front page so they knew it had just happened. Then took the car and video to the dealer. Took a while but having seen the video the dealer stayed with it until it flickered.
Parts and labor to replace screen was $1800 and although Easy Care's standard labor rate for the screen replacement paid $300 less than the dealer, they still paid the $1500 difference no questions asked.

Based upon my experience, and the extensive repairs Easy Care covered for the previous owner (I received a complete set of records with the sale), I would highly recommend Easy Care to anyone.

Question

Went with the Main Street Route 66 through my credit union for $2100 3 year/36000. I'm thinking about canceling the plan after reading so many negative things about third party warranties.

It appears Route 66 deals extensively with credit unions which I am sure could help if there was ever any issues and I had to lean on the credit union for assistance. But then again, if the transmission goes, and I get a 7k bill, will they fork over the money for repairs? Or will they posture and find some technicality in the maintenance records to give them a legal stance to say no.'
Decision, decisions

I'm very happy them. So far they have paid for my electric water pump and my oil condition sensor. No issues, no gimmicks. Bought the contract from PenFed, $1895 for 5yrs from the start of contract and 100k miles. It is also an exclusionary warranty which is what you want.
