Navigation Monitor extremely dim after warm up

My '08, Z4 navigation display is getting very dim. While on a long trip the unit felt hot to the touch and was unusable so had to go to backup GPS. After unit cooled was much better. I suspect its "back light" is going out....Do I haves any options, preferable, get it repaired but don't know who? Can some one please help me ? New to European cars and still feeling my way around....Thanks, Norval

Have you tried to adjust the brightness ? You can do this. The same button that controls the brightness of your dash lights also controls the monitor. You can also go into your monitor controls and add brightness to your monitor. I have Nav in my Z4 and the monitor does get hot also. Read your owners manual for the Nav controls. I hope this helps you.

Thanks for the reply, yup, I've tried the brightness control, although it does effect the brightness, when the monitor goes dim there is very little the brightness control has effect. The monitor is unusable when this happens about 2 hours after being on.....
