Great Moments in Travel History

I seem to always want to apply my interest in history (my degrees are in history as is one of my books) to things I am involved in. At the end of last year, I launched a weekly short feature on travel history in Frequent Business Traveler.

After running this for 3 months, we decided to change the format to Great Moments in Travel History and do it on a monthly basis - and I thought a lot of Festers here might enjoy the series, which starts today for May.

This month we cover early Boeing and Douglas aircraft flights, the first female flight attendant, the world's first regularly scheduled jetliner service, the birth of Airbus, the creation of the world´s first and second frequent flyer programs, and more.


Great Moments in Travel History – May 2012

In 1893, numerous visitors flocked to Chicago for the 1893 World's Fair, which introduced the Ferris Wheel, among other curiosities, to the world.
The beginnings of international air travel were discussed as an international conference on aerial navigation opened in Paris on May 18, 1910.

On May 9, 1917, William Boeing changed the name of his company, Pacific Aero Products, to the Boeing Airplane Co. The name stuck...
