See this post http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...13&postcount=6

This is for the 2011MY but gives you an idea. You should be looking at the Wholesale Price for "Base Price for Euro Delivery Munich Pickup"

If you search around here or at M3Post.com you may be able to find the 2012 version of the list.

Generally speaking you will pay ED Invoice + $1,000.

Thanks guys!

Another questions when I purchase ED, how is my local state tax is treated?

When I place the order is that added or when I get the car delivery I have to do it on my own?

what about registration with DMV?

Sorry if I am asking a lot of questions. I am a total noob as you can see.

Apologies if I am asking questions in incorrect section. Still trying to get my way around the bimmerfest world.

It is all calculated in exactly the same way as for non-ED cars.

Have you viewed the Wiki?

There are a number of theads on this topic, but I'll post my numbers here:

The first dealer I went to quoted me the standard MSRP less 7%, full price on options.

For my 535i that priced out on bmwconfig for US pricing at:

base price 54,800
options 6,996
ED price based on these numbers (base less 7% + full price options) = $57,959 (if my math is right!) This does NOT include delivery

bmwconfig for ED gave me an invoice price of $53,383, and 2nd dealer quoted me about $1000 above that price all in including delivery, saving me several thousand dollars from the first offered price.

I'd go into the dealer with the bmwconfig ED pricing and say "I'll pay this plus 1K" and see what they say!

To your other questions, everying except the Munich pickup is done exactly like any other US purchase - negotiate with the dealer who will place the order and give you an order number, put down a small amount when you place the order - my dealer wanted $500 but never actually put through the charge - pay/finance/arrange lease a few days before your trip, including all taxes etc., pick up car, drive, await redelivery to your dealer. That's it!! In terms of registration, that's also done by the dealer when your new baby is redelivered, although I actually paid the fee along with the rest of the payment before the trip. You get temporary German registration paperwork at the Welt - a really intimidating green booklet that I got to keep - and then it will be reregistered in your state when delivered to you.

When you place the order you can lock in the financing/lease deal that's currently available for 2 months, but if something better comes along you can change to the better offer before you make your purchase. And, you can make any changes (including the entire model!) until the vehicle goes into production, which for me was about 2 or 3 weeks before delivery.

Great info!

So basically I need to find a local dealer (Which I already did, thank you Vern Bimmerfest member suggested me) go with my bmwconfig.com printout and negotiate with them on the dealer fees.

I believe I received incorrect information or perhaps I misunderstood that my travel expense are included in some fees. I believe the travel exp comes around 2k-3k or so. depending on my plans.

Do the dealership try to add some hidden fees in financing? I mean it should be pretty simple but still want to know if anyone ever experienced any surprises on their finance/leasing from local dealer.

Once again thanks for the info

Although I did have the printout in my folder, I didn't bring it out since that seemed just a little agressive and thought it wiser to see what the dealer came up with in response to my saying "I've been reading the blogs and it sounds like the price should be ED invoice plus something for your time." And when that's what he came up with I was finished, if he'd been higher that's when I would have brought out the paperwork. The best things to do is educate yourself, which you've already been doing by reading and posting here. I'll bet most people follow the party line of "BMW doesn't negotate" and take the published deal of 7% off MRSP as gospel and just sign. But, now you'll be armed with better information!!

No travel expenses are included - you're on your own. Some companies do/did include travel, I think Volvo used to include plane fare and one night hotel (and they maybe still do) not not BMW. Lufthansa has had a 2 for 1 offer, but that's changing and there's a recent thread further down the list on this. Many people found they could do better on their own, since the Lufthansa pricings isn't based on the lowest booking code.

I had no hidden fees, the only things I wasn't expecting was that I owed a bit more tax than my calculation since the final price included a rebate and in Illinois I needed to pay tax on that portion even though it wasn't part of the price (go figure!!) and I added a tire/rim/windshield insurance package since in Chicago potholes just "happen" and the cost of the insurance will be paid back with one rim/tire/windshield per year.

My final hint is to commit to this deal as early as you're ready, at most you'll be paying a relatively small deposit and won't owe real money until a week before delivery. The reason for this is that you want to get your choice of delivery date, and some dates do fill up. Your dealer can request up to three dates and he told me that "most people" get their first choice when working a few months out, but not always. He also told me that most North American customers get delivery times in the morning - this was certainly true the day we were there, and our suggested arrival time was 9:10am, that makes it difficult to fly overnight the night before and make a morning delivery, I'd plan to arrive at least the day before delivery. You can also go the the Welt multiple times, continue to use the lounge, etc., and I wish we'd done it over a couple days. After delivery, plant tour, museum and gift shop we were beat, and we met a couple people on the plant tour who were actually taking delivery the next day.

I took the same for my wife's MDX. Let's just say in USA potholes are everywhere.

We got a great deal for 5yrs of coverage for only $750. not a bad deal at all when one tire cost around $400-$500

I figured I am better off booking on my own as it comes out cheaper when you book both flights and hotel. Plus I have some miles I can use towards my air fair also.

This forum is great. I am so happy I register here. in just one day I already came across awesome people like milepig, vern, Ivan.

Thank you everyone. keep the info coming

You may also want the Performance Centre Delivery, too. That's on bimmerfest.com as well.

This might be helpful....You can start educating yourself about the M3 by looking here:

I hope you're using a Bimmerfest "approved" sponsor. I did my ED with a NJ dealership before I found this fabulous website and went through many a headache because they knew less about European Delivery than I did. And they are one of the biggest BMW dealerships in the country!

^ This. It is hassle-free to use these sponsors that absolutely know what they are doing.
