Average age of 5 series driver

My second, third, and fourth BMWs were all E39s:
* 1997 528i
* 2000 540i/6
* 2002 M5

Two of them even had the same interiors -- black with wood trim. (The 528i was aubergine.) I had an E39 in my garage from December 1996 to June 2007. I somehow never got bored of that series.

I've been driving BMWs for 20 years, since my early 30s. Only one has been a coupe. I just like the look and feel of a sport sedan.

I guess I am the odd one. I bought my first at age 60 and thoroughly enjoy all aspects of driving it.

1st BMW was E39 in 2001. 2nd will be an F10 2012 (delivery end of May). When I was 30 I was driving a Suzuki Samauri and before that it was an AMC Gremlin.

I will be 38 when I get my 5, however I got my GS430 (similar to the 5 in size/power etc) when I was 30. The reasons I went for the GS was I wanted RWD. I also needed comfortable seats as I was driving 100 miles a day round trip to work and my back had been injured when someone rear-ended and totaled my previous car. The only other car besides the 3 series and GS series that had seats that would not cause intense pain after 10 minutes of driving (and that I could afford) was the Corvette, but when you consider I lived in the Chicagoland area at the time, I could not justify a car I could only reliably drive 5-7 months a year.

Bought my first (E60) three years ago at 61. That car brings a smile to my face every time I drive it. Loved the experience so much that I am EDing a new carbon black F10 Msport on June 29th. The dream continues.

Since this thread is in the F10/F11 forum, I am presuming that we are talking about new 5's. I expect there would be a considerable difference between the average age of those purchasing new vs. used.

BTW I'm 64.

32, but with enough grey to pass for 40+. First BMW. Dual income, no kids (yet) helps.

If I was 30, I'd get a CPO 2009 M3 coupe or sedan, and spend the money I saved vs. the F10 on track wheels, brakes, tires and HPDE entry fees.

He can drive sports sedans for the next 40+ years. Go have fun before kids and diapers get in the way.

(When I was 30 I had a 3 year old 911 for fun and track days, and a Mercedes-Benz C280 as a DD. Life was good. )

If I didn't have kids to take around, that's what I'd go for now.

I am 29 and single and bought my first BMW a few months ago (had an 89 Corolla station wagon in high school from my dad, and then bought a 98 Acura 2.3CL sophomore year of college which i just sold last week). The 2012 5 series has a very sporty, sexy look and it drives like a beast too (even the non-sport). The dash (as well as the interior overall) is way nicer than in the 3. I also looked at the CT200 and the GS250. The GS is actually really nice too. It was between that and the 5. Honestly though...until the 2012 model, I never even thought about the 5. I've always wanted the 3 coupe or convertible. But when I test drove those cars, the 328 is def underpowered and no fun to drive, so it was either the 335 coupe, convertible, or the sport coupe. But as somebody pointed out, the cost for one of those with the options would've been the same (or more in some cases i priced out!!) then my 5! So it was a no brainer. Definitely no regrets. And the ladies still love it. And why does it matter what the average age is anyways? I'm sure the average age for Porsche 911 owners (or the convertible M6) is up there...does that mean he wouldn't want to own one if he had the chance?

PS. Oh, and the mpg on the 4-cyl 5 is better than on any of the 3s. Of course not nearly as good as the CT200, but also better than on the GS250.
