My car is still in for oil change after tire flat on way to work. Spoke to dealer about recall. He said bmw has known for a while and i probably wont get a letter since i had my egr valve replaced with the new one in dec 2011 and had the ecu flash then as well. We will see if i get a letter or not. But i havent noticed much difference in car characteristics. Average mpg is consistently 33. Have done slightly better on some tanks when i milked the gas pedal. As my other thread shows, the reflash didnt save me any tire life on the rears so torque doesnt seem to be a problem.

I just spoke to my dealer and I was told it's a 90 min job. I was surprised because I always thought reprogram took a couple of hours. This sucks because it means a 3-4 hr commute once everything is done.

Just concerned in that the emissions system needed what would have been several thousand dollars of repair in three years...I understand it may take time to get it right.

When i had it done in dec 2011, it was not a 90 minute job. Was told the ecu reflash needed car to be hooked up. They had my car a full day. Maybe they have gotten better or have quicker programing method since dec to avoiding using up shop time for the recall?

Given that it might take time to get the parts, I'll definitely schedule this so that I can get a loaner. Maybe I'll combine with having the Sat Radio Module installed. For that install they need the car the whole day just for the reprogramming of the I Drive.

Any speculation on whether this recall will do anything to prevent the disturbing cylinder head issue that several cars experienced earlier this year?

1st day to receive the car, 2nd day to figure out what they need to do to it, 3rd day to redo what they did on 2nd day and verify it. Heck, I'll give them a full 5 days. |

That sounds about right but do not forget about day 6 when you pick it up and the SES light turns on during your trip home. So you can find out next time you are there they still did the job wrong.

Ok amigos the dealer told that w/o a letter they cannot go thru so this what i wrote BMWA and is as follows:
Good day. I am a PROUD owner of 2011 335d, but I have had the SES light come up on me a various of times and then turn off by itself a day or two later. I have called on various occassions to CR center and they have told me my car is not been selected on this recall. It is a known issue through out the DIESEL community and many owners have been notified already. I have also gone to Autogermana in Puerto Rico and SA stated the same as to no recalls on my vehicle. My mileage has gone down a little, but, I still love my car. Can you please have this Campaign issue sent to me via offical letter since Autogermana has just notified me that without a Campaign number there is nothing they can do for me. Please you prompt response is requested. Gracias!!!!! I asked them to send info via email and we'll wait and see |

Looks like I didn't get the Emission's Recall. The dealer scanned my key and there were no open recalls for my VIN.
![]() BMW dealer called me out of the blue for this recall and the number on this recall is completely different.

I inquired through my salesperson about the recall and was told my car is not eligible for any recalls at this time (per their email communication with representatives in Munich). My car was built in August of 2011, so perhaps I already have the improved parts.

So far have not received any official letter from BMW Canada but on Tuesday my SA checked my VIN and booked me in for the recall service today.
I dropped my D off at the Dealer first thing this morning and was told it should be ready tomorrow. I had a chat with my SA about the reliability of the D. He said so far there have not been any thing major but at his dealership most of the D owners have not put high mileage. My D now is 140 miles to the end of the warranty and I have decided not to purchase any extended warranty. |
