I have a X5d on order and I'm a member of usaa, but I don't use there insurance. Is the dicount still available and do I qualify?

The "discount" is buying the car through their buying service (ZAG) which is useful if you don't want to play the salesman/salesmgr game. You can do better, but not really a lot better and it is a much less "difficult" proceedure. I have used them for other makes in the past and found the in and out much more preferable (for me) than the "old way" of writing numbers on slips of paper. Some actually like the haggling and can do well at getting the numbers down, for those I say "good on 'ya" -- I happen to not be one of them and I like a painless purchase.

I'm about to pull the trigger on an X5. My understanding is that there are 2 different USAA programs - their buying service mentioned above and their BMW direct incentives. I'm not interested in the buying program; but I am very interested in the current $2500 rebate available on the X5. This is in addition to the eco credit. I'm trying to join USAA through my in-laws now to take advantage of this.

i've not been paying attention to this, but I cannot understand how USAA can give an ADDITIONAL $2500 off of a well-negotiated deal....

There just isn't a spare 2500 laying around- USAA must be paying this out of pocket- it isn't out of the retail part, and I am betting that BMW isn't taking 2500 less on the invoice...

If it is "off of MSRP', then it is just BS as anyone should be able to get 2500 off. (Although as J points out, there is less hand-to-hand combat...)

Anyway, confused by this....

I don't know the exact details because I purchased our X5 through military sales so they would not honor the USAA discount. But it is separate than the USAA purchase program. I think if you are financing through USAA you should be able to get the rebate.

The bigger question is why not consider insuring through them also, I think they are wonderful.

USAA is paying the extra $2500 and its not off MSRP... I had already negotiated my deal and got the extra $2500 at the last minute (the program had just been announced). You have to have USAA insurance, that is the only requirement. There is no incentive on the diesel, only the gassers.

I'm picking up my 2013 50i M-Sport tomorrow and using the USAA $3,750 discount. Dealer knew about it and we are just subtracting the amount from the agreed upon price. Very nice.

Not sure who is footing the bill here, but I suspect it is BMW as USAA said this is a trial program running through Jan 3, 2013 and if BMW is happy with the sales results then they may continue it like the Mercedes program (which has been in effect for a few years).

Will let the board know if I run into any snafus at closing of the transaction tomorrow.

You have to have the auto insurance or property insurance with usaa to qualify. Or you have to prove you are eligible. This is completely different then their car buying service. Just call usaa or have the dealership call them. It's between BMW and usaa. It doesn't come out of the dealers pocket

For the record, I did get my USAA discount on the diesel. The diesel model is not spelled out specifically on the USAA site as a separate line item of models eligible for credits. I did not use their car buyer services...I had already initiated discussions with my dealer back in January about whether or not I should go with gas or diesel, and had spent some time test driving a few cars.

After I had decided on the car I wanted, I simply filled out the specs on the USAA website as if I were ordering a new car, and the total credits on the final pricing page came to $6000. That's the ECO credit and USAA credit totalled up together.

All my dealer asked me for was my USAA insurance card, which they made a photocopy of.

I filled out all the final paperwork at the dealership less than 4 weeks ago.

I attached a jpeg image of a screenshot I just got from the USAA site today This wasn't the build I put in...but I selected the "d" model as you can see, and the $2500 USAA credit appears at the bottom. My dealer had no questions or issues...and the finance lady spoke directly with USAA to verify the offer.

Hope this helps. That's all I know...was pretty painless. Good luck.

Called USAA and you don't have to have insurance with them, just be eligible for it, which for some reason I'm not yet. Have to call back Monday and get that taken care of. They asked some strange questions like how long was I married to my ex and how I got to be a member.

Two programs? I stand corrected! I had no idea that USAA did this -- and I have been a member since 1967! I guess I should start reading all that stuff they send out. Thanks for setting me straight.
