New Starter Problems

The old starter was thumping and whirring and did not cranck the engine. So I replaced it with a new one from O'Reilly's.

The nuew one makes one big thump and that's it. No cranking.

I am pretty sure I hooked it up correctly and the battery is fulty charged.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi, a friend of mine got a bad one from the same place, it might just be bad.

Try rotating the crankshaft by putting a socket on it and move the flywheel to a different position. Maybe some of the teeth are damaged.

With the fly wheel,, I have had that problem. It tends to sound like a high pitch screech. Until the starter hits a good tooth.
