2009 7 speed dual clutch question
I am about to buy a 2009 Z4 35i with the 7spd transmission. A BMW dealer, not the one with the car for sale, told me the 7spd in the 2009 Z4 is not a true dual clutch like in other models. He said it is more of an automatic with paddle shifters. I am trying to research it, but not haveing much luck coming up with 2009 information in my searches.
Anybody know the real deal? Thanks for the help in advance. Hawk 6

6 speed automatic = steptronic
7 speed automatic = Dual Clutch Transmission Both were available with paddle shifters on steering wheel.

I'm not sure how they would claim it's not a true DCT like in other models. The programming of the DCT is not as good as in an M-DCT as it will do some screwy shifting on you even in manual mode. Particularly, the accelerator kick down can cause a downshift in manual mode and if you load the engine too much at low (but not excessively low) RPM's it will downshift in manual mode. So, I call it "Mostly Manual Mode". Kind of like how I call the 35is "Almost an M".
