Good luck with the throttle delay issue. Plenty of discussion about it. Enjoy your ride!

BTW, you're supposed to avoid full throttle acceleration until after your 1200 mile break-in period. If you don't read anything else in the manual, you should read the break-in information.

Zero tip-in delay here as well on my 2013 535i.

I am wondering if people with this problem are comparing apples and oranges? I mean, if you are comparing your car's turbo engine with atmospheric engines, then you'll feel a slight "delay' until the turbo spools up, which is reduced to a minimum in the late BMW engines with smaller turbos/twin scroll turbos, adjustable valvetronic, better software ampping, etc. But a 550 will not be exactly like a 400 hp 6 liter engined car when launching from standstill.

But when I compare my BMW engine to earlier turbo cars that I have driven like the Ford Escort Cossworth, Lancia Delta HF, even the first versions of Subaru Impreza WRX, Audi 80t, Mitsubishi Evo, etc., the response after throttle tip-in is almost instantaneous. The older turbo cars had such a turbo lag that when the turbo kicked in after 3-4K rpm, you had a neck-snapping and mostly uncontrolled acceleration and literally nothing until then.

I love the flat torque curve of my car and the early engagement of the twinscroll turbo.

There is a slight delay but in my MB CL600 v12 biturbo there was no delay at all. No that the engines are direct injection is this why there is a delay? However with dinan stage 2 there is no delay

That's a fair point but I don't believe what I am detecting is a turbo lag symptom. I will admit that I never owned a turbo car before. Still, I can't believe that when I hit the gas that I get almost nothing then a surge of power. It is so strange. Its DEFINITELY NOT how I anticpate a bmw to be let alone any car. Today I was in 3rd gear doing about 60, then from a constant speed, I pushed the pedal to the floor. The reaction was really poor. I just can't believe that to be normal. I know there is a service bulleting somewhere in the forum on this subject. I am going to print it now and go to the dealer first thing tomorrow with that in hand. I'll let you guys know what happens.

But isn't the car suppose to learn your driving mechanics? Isn't it too early?

I do not experience what elmanzah describes and my vehicle only has 900 miles on it so far. So I don't think his issue is related to the vehicle learning or not learning driving style.

Anyway, this has been discussed over and over and it seems there are issues with some cars. It's inconsistent behavior from car to car.

I'm happy mine doesn't exhibit the bad behavior.

Did you try not hitting the gas all the way down at once but keeping the car at a certain rpm like around 3-4K and then first slowly pressing the gas for an instant and then flooring it?

It sounds exactly like a turbo lag until the turbos are fully at pressure. And also the car is very new, it need some time to break in.

I believe that they do the mapping at BMW to suit a large average group of drivers (all sort of people from different demographics) so that the car is not "jumpy" at the start from standstill (especially during stop-and-go traffic).

People who own/ed G37 Infinitis (especially manual ones) know very well that the car is always hanging on the gas and it immediately revs up the moment you hit the gas, but the trade-off is that you cannot drive in a refined manner at slow speeds or slow down without jerky moves and most people have problems in the beginning to drive off from a stop without stalling the car.

Let's see, what the dealer will tell you tomorrow. Godd luck.

Damn all this talk about lag is really making me think about getting a performance tuner which ive read drastically improves the lag issue. I don't have the car yet so can't comment on the actual lag.

Any day. They have to send it back to tint shop because they were only able to do half the car because computer was in transport mode and they need to roll windows down. So back to dealer to fix that then back to tint shop to finish. I'm guessing Friday or next Monday the latest. Its been like 10 weeks lol but I'm being patient because the longer it takes the closer we get to better weather and don't have to worry about getting a new black car in the middle of snow season. I'm okay waiting but I'm starting to get that impatient itch.

I know exactly what you mean. Mine is at the port waiting to ship tomorrow. After it get's to the dealer, I told them don't touch it. I'm gonna have my guys at Unlimited auto in Oyster Bay do a New car prep, Tint 20%, Opti-coat, clear bra and switching the RFT's. I figure 2nd week of April.

Yeah they aren't touching my car even leaving the white wrap on. Its getting flat bedded to phil at detailersdomain for new car prep, opti-coat etc. Can't wait to see it when they are done. I already bought the m5 spoiler and the painted reflector inserts. Probably do the stage 2 burger tune after car is broken in if this lag is really as annoying as others say. Also having it coded right away so I get some nice fun features.

We're on the same page. I told my dealer the same thing, leave the wrapping on Where did you get the painted reflectors?
