5HP30 Transmission Problem

I'm new to the forum and BMW. Just got a '97 740i that had the engine replaced after the previous owner drove into some deep water and got water into crankcase. The car drives but it seems to be stuck in a higher gear. I'm thinking that the tranny got wet too. The car had 172k on it at the time of the engine swap and after reading about all the problems with this trans. anyway, I'm going in the direction of having it rebuilt and just replace all the electronics on it. I then have to find a shop that is competent with this transmission to do the rebuild. I'm just wondering if anyone has had experience with having one of these rebuilt and if so are you happy with the result.

Hey, what's going on. So to answer your questions I knew some one with a little experience with remapping bmw audi mostly german cars. So he did the gutted the cats. When he mapped it he also turned up the fuel psi. That's about it tho.

Thanks for the replies. I'm thinking that it probably got water in the trans as well as the motor, but I was going to have it serviced first to see if it would come around. Although it sounds like these transmissions don't work under normal conditions very well, so I'm thinking water in them more than likely kills them. I'm surprised that more people haven't switched them out for 6 speeds.

On the remapping, that will something I will look into at some point. Sounds interestiing. Thx
