X1 E84 (2011 - current)
The new to the US BMW X1 will arrive at BMW dealers in the fall of 2012 as a 2013 model year. Get your X1 28i with either sDrive (RWD) or xDrive (AWD) or get the US exclusive I6 N55 powered X1 35i dDrive. |

Lots of buzz about the X1, but it is even a good vehicle?
I've seen next to no positive reviews about it in the international press where the vehicle has been in service for a while. I expect the same results after the US release. Has anybody who wants to buy one even considered that it won't be a good vehicle? Similar to first gen X3? Aside from wanting the SUV "look," it seems like a 3-series wagon is going to be the infinitely better choice.

I've seen it in the flesh in Europe and it's a very handsome vehicle. Like the first year or so of the X3, the interior materials could have been better, but I believe that's been rectified in the LCI that's coming here. -MrB

The J Man? Hmmm... might have to battle for that title.
I wanted an X1 for two years. Thought that I would trade in my 2006 X3 for one, but they kept pushing back the US release. I found a great deal on a 2011 X3 and jumped on it becasue I was tired of waiting for the X1 and didnt think they would bring the new 3 wagon. Two weeks later they announced that the X1 would be brought to the US in the fall. Oh well. I hear its a great car. I did a lot of research last year and liked everything I read. I was even considering a trip to Canada to look at one so I could be the first to order in the states. Now that they plan to bring the F31 wagon over here I would consider that as well when considering an X1/X3.

I too have been waiting for the X1 to arrive on our shores but I won't place my order for one unless it passes my butt dyno test. Not going to plunk down over $40K unless it gets my own seal of approval.

Yeah, that's the dilemma. I love the idea and the price is pretty attractive. But I need to see the space, feel the drive to determine if I want it over the 328i.

My BMW salesman just informed me that the X1 will have limited available this fall. Probably not available at all for ED.
We wanted to do a European Delivery for the X1 in Sept or Oct but he indicated that the X1 will come out of their normal limited allocation so the discount will be minimal. Probably a few hundred off US MSRP. I was torn between the X1 and the 2013 328ix for ED. We will probably buy the 328ix. I know I will like it since I test drove a 2012 328i. It's likely that a X1 won't be available for a test drive until maybe September so it would be a leap of faith on the X1. The 328ix does have the heads up display and the knee airbags which are not available on the X1. |
