Ford Shelby??

Any thoughts on the Ford Shelby GT500 (662hp, 631 lb-ft torque)?

http://www.autoblog.com/2012/04/26/2...30-pound-feet/

I know it's a 550 forum, but this is kind of a big deal for the future of automobiles. Higher numbers with more fuel efficiency, blah blah...

631 ft-lb torque @ 4,000 rpms and 395 off of idle at 1,000rpms!

I guess the interesting question here is, would you buy/lease one?

I snuck it in a few threads most people just see it as cheap hp, pretty soon I'm sure kia will have some 400+hp car.... I'm intrigued though and if they get cheap enough why not have a car that can do 0-60 in first gear, I asked an online dealer in my area what they were going for, and they're trying to get above MSRP these cares will be low 40s in a year or two.

This car doesn't interest anyone?! I feel like it's an impressive moment in car history. Maybe it'll affect the pricing of other manufacturers' vehicles or encourage other companies to make faster cars.(...being a bit of a dreamer here). In the 1990's almost every sedan looked the same. Maybe in the 2020's every car company will produce 500hp+ machines for low cost.

I'm not saying I would ever buy one, but I wouldnt mind renting one in the future from Hertz or the like.

I'm a bit of a car enthusiast, thought someone else would relate. Next time I'll limit my post about technically impressive cars to the F10.

It has a ton of power, but it is nothing new. There are tons of tuners out there putting this and much much more to the ground. Important moment in car history? Why? An overpowered car will not make other manufacturers rethink their strategy.

The lack of interest here is understandable. Isn't it against Ford's policies to sell a Mustang to anyone over 30? Sorry, but mustangs are stigmatized as a kids car and no matter how good they are they will never beat that image....

I'm sure it would be fun as a track car, but not as a DD.

I doubt it will be an option on many Hertz lots - not a renter car and would maybe finds it way into specialty rental places.

This cars impressiveness appears to be centered on its sky high HP numbers. That alone makes it newsworthy, but it offers little more than that to this crowd.

Slow down there partner.....this sounds like a "when did you stop beating your wife" thing

My comment was that the interest in the upcoming Shelby is not lost on performance fanatics here, but aside from that it has little in common with a luxury sedan platform forum. The cars national heritage seems to have been focused on by you, not me. I did not see the news on the Shelby and found it interesting. Beyond that, its appeal here will be pretty limited, having nothing to do with the location in which it was built or your self-described description of any inferiority.

Legendary racer, car designer Carroll Shelby dies

How timely...

DALLAS (AP) Carroll Shelby, the legendary auto racer and car designer who built the fabled Shelby Cobra sports car and injected testosterone into Ford's Mustang and Chrysler's Viper, has died. He was 89.
