X3 Lost Power, Died For A While!!
Wifey called from work, our new 2004 X3 lost power and died for a short time time on the way in. She said all the warning lights lit up like a Christmas tree!
After 5 minutes it started up and she was able to get to work..we've only had the X3 for two weeks!!! Has this happened to anyone here?

I'm thinking the same thing. She said the odometer and clock lost their memories.

Yeah, if you're still running the original battery, it's time for a replacement. Although if you just bought it, the dealer might have put a new one in.

Given the number of battery deaths last year, if your 2004 is on the original battery it's overdue for a replacement even under kindest of driving environments.
At least mine was kind enough to finally die on my doorstep. I'd been driving it all day, not knowing that the "rough starts" = dying battery. |

Our battery died last year and we paid ~$200 at the BMW dealer for the OEM replacement. It was the original battery (~7 years old) and the X3 had ~100k miles at the time.

My 328 had all sorts of electrical gremlins before the battery died last fall.
I buy mine at Batteries Plus, prices are much better than a stealer and they carry the right sizes for BMW's. |

Update: The dealer repair says they pulled codes, drove many miles etc and came up with nada. I could never make it fail either.
I did perform the ultra-secret engine computer reset Sunday. ![]() We really like the X3 so I hope its OK. Cheers, The Captain. |

Bad battery. Take a look at Autozone as well.

The X3 is back from the dealer. They could not find anything. They did extend the warranty for six months as a gesture of good will.
If necessary I'll install a new battery but so far all is well... |
