Looking for an different place to buy bmw oem parts

I most likely will have to replace my alternator and I called one dealership and they wanted $1,000 just for the part. I understand it is water cooled but is there any reputable bmw oem places I can buy from that maybe cheaper than the dealership?

Use www.furiousmethod website and type in your part number. It will open about 20 different websites looking for the part you type in.

Thanks guys. Question: do you think it's normal for an alternator to go out within 4 years? When I got this car the dealer replaced the alternator and battery. Seems odd to me.
