Lease NEW 428 Gran Coupe or Buy CPO 535i - DEBATE

So although I am not ready to buy/lease yet I am very torn between two different cars. I really enjoy them both so I wanted to here your comments either way.

CAR 1: Lease of a 2015 428i Gran Coupe - Loaded
CAR 2: Purchase of a 2011/2012 535i - As loaded as I can find

I haven't purchased a vehicle since 2003. I have been leasing ever since, typically 36 month leases. I really enjoy leasing but sometimes wish I could do some light modifications that when leasing is just throwing away money. On the other hand, I'm kinda afraid to purchase because of repairs. Obviously going CPO would help.

So what are your thoughts on these two very different cars.

If you choose a 2011/12 5er you need to be sure it has active dampers and preferably Active Roll Stabilization to get the best handling. In 2013 the static 704 sport suspension was added to M Sport models.

I'm not much for mod'ing, so I'd go for the lease.

CPO may not work if you mod the car.

Have you test driven either of them? The F10 5er will feel like a boat after you've driven the 4GC.

Let's assume you buy the 5er and decide to keep it 6 years which would be the same as two back to back 36 mo leases during which the cost to you over that time horizon would be about the same - perhaps with a little bit more volatility in the expenses on the 5er due to maintenance.

So what would you enjoy more over the next 6 years, a larger more comfortable vehicle - OR - a smaller more sporty car and the option to choose another car in 3 years?

I'm not into boats but I would chose the 2011/2012 535i. At least that car will have a proper 6 cylinder turbo engine in it. The 428i has a 4 banger in it. No dice in my book.

I had a 2011 535i M-Sport and will take delivery next week of a 435i GC. The 5 was very nice, however I like smaller cars. When I did the math for leasing grand coupe vs keeping the 5 series for another 3 years, the cost was too close to buy the 5.

As far as a boat - I'm not sure what you guys mean. It's not a 7-series? I have a '13 Altima now which is 1" shorter than the specs on a 2011 5-series. The 3/4-series is about 1' shorter.

I've driven a 328i but never the 428GC. I loved the 328 when I drove it and almost leased one but didn't want the high payment at the time (moving and changing jobs - ya never know what can happen)

I think I'm leaning away from purchasing... I just get nervous that something can happen and I'll have to pay for it.

To Bimmerfesters any BMW that doesn't ride and handle like a sport package E46 3er might as well be a Toyota Camry. Their recollection of how an everyday, non-BMW automobile handles tends to get a little screwed up.

Try 4100 lbs for a 535 compared to 3400 for a 3.5L altima. Those extra 700 lbs make a world of difference.

That isn't quite fair. Some EPS BMWs are really terrible, e.g. no-line early F10s and some F30s, and much more so than other manufacturer's EPS cars, or the 2-series for that matter.

As for the original question, whichever has the M sport suspension and then you hope that a software update fixes the steering.

Why not have the decision be lease 428i GC or lease 528i? I think between the options you need to add to the 428i GC to match the 528i + the incentive differential between the two cars it would make the two more or less even.
