I suspect that they designed the engine with certain goals in mind, then detuned it for the 550i/X 50i. It's easy to do if you cut back boost and limit airflow. That's why Dinan was able to get back an easy 95 hp by cranking up the boost. Beyond increased boost, the next limiting factor is going to be airflow...on the intake and exhaust side (esp downpipes). We will see what the tuners can come up with.

Ohh you meant a stock M5. My bad. The one I'm considering has the dinan stroked 5.7L V10 with 628 horsepower. It's not stock haha my bad for the misunderstanding.

Stop being a troll. You made a valid point in your original post about the 550i running out of breath up top, then after that it turned south. The M5 motor on the E60, or the F10 for that matter, is designed with different goals in mind than the 550i. The point others were making is that with progress, the 550 has become as fast as the last generation M5. The Dinan stroker kit increases displacement to 5.8L and hp to 611, so you get 104 hp all for just $33,000. To get to 628 hp you have to spend another $5000 on exhaust and underdrive pulley, for a total of $38K on top of the M5 itself. Comparing that to an F10 550i in stock form or even with a $3500 Dinan chip (501 hp, +101 hp) is ridiculous. Besides, even with the stroker motor you would be slower than a new M5 (which is infinitely more tunable), so why waste your time and money?

The guys at the dealer said it had 628 horsepower. They just said it was stroked to 5.7. And your right they are totally different, I was just basically wondering why.

One man's soul is another man's issues.
You know what they say about single hot women...'somewhere is a guy who got sick of her'...

Your right, I may very well get sick of its short-comings but right now i love it. Has anyone here driven the new M5? Driving dynamics?
