Extend their Satellite Radio?
So my satellite radio subscription is coming to an end. Has anyone extended their subscription at a discounted rate?

I just extended for a year for about $175. Have gotten some mailings from Sirius for our other car, which I think implied I could have done better. I don't have the killer haggle instinct when it comes to stuff relating to my 550 - just want to continue to enjoy the maximum experience with minimum hassle.
My experience with cable TV companies is that you can call and ask for Customer Retention, say you are thinking about letting your service drop, and generally negotiate a better deal. Maybe you can do the same with Sirius.

I waited until after my subscription ran out, about 1 month later, got a flyer that I was able renew my subscription at around 75 per year for as long as I wanted, just made it a revolving charge, I was not willing to pay the normal going price.

I let mine gap for a week while I was on a week-long trip, and actually renewed it about an hour ago for a reduced rate of $107 for the year after Mrs. Dunderhi complained about them getting the renewal date wrong. Yeah, she's keeper.

Let it lapse and they mail you an offer to renew 6 months for $25
Just never give them your credit card number.

It never crossed my mind. In the 1 year I have owned the car, I have tuned to satellite radio may be 3 times. Heck, I have listened to the radio may be 10 times. It's mostly my music collection, Pandora, and slacker.

Theres a trick with this !!! Wait a few months and they will keep sending you forms to sign up and it keeps getting cheaper and cheaper ! Wait about 6 months and you will pay next to nothing for a year

+1. Used it on one long trip before getting an ipod. Still had a credit balance from my previous BMW which they will not refund. At end of year I called to cancel and was able to use the credit balance ($54) to extend 9 months at which time I will cancel. I've got over 11,000 songs in my ipod so don't need Sirius.

I just renewed today for the same as dunderhi ($107 - actually 1/2 price of $175 = $87.50 plus taxes and some other rip-off fee comes out to $107) I had renewed in December for $20 for 5 months but there was no way they would let me do that again.

Mine is coming to an end in a few days, and I called to make sure it was NOT on auto renewal.
This has happened with Sirius in the past, and it's quite annoying that you have to opt-out when you give your CC. Of course, they don't tell you. Shady, shady. Satellite radio is so old school compared to the capabilities of Pandora/Spotify, and I don't enjoy it nearly as much as XM when I had my 2004 Audi (there were like 4 stations of dance music versus one, and I like upbeat music when I drive). If I can get it for < $50/year, I will. But that's it. When I called to check about the auto-renewal, I was offered $90+fees which came out to $107. I told them no. I'm sure the offers will come in soon enough.

Thanks for everyone's input. I guess I'll cancel and wait several months for the $25 for 6 months. If not then I'll resort to my pandora.

The sound quality is not very good--even compared to an mp3 track at 256 kbps. And especially compared to a CD it just sucks! I might renew at the above stated rate of $25/half year but otherwise Pandora is a better option.

I got this and did not even let it lapse. I called them and said my subscription is ending and asked what specials they had. Told them I was fine with letting it lapse and they offered me the 25 bucks for 6 months. I took it.

I have three lifetime contracts with them on two cars and one home unit. In addition, my wife's 2007 Mini Cooper S came with a lifetime contract. The cost for the contract I bought was $400. You can transfer them up to three times for $75 each transfer. This is only a good deal if you plan on keeping the car for a long time. If they keep on giving out $50 a year specials my lifetime will take 8 years to break even. If I transfer one, it'll take even longer. One of the contracts is six years old.
When I called recently to put the home unit on a lifetime contract, they told me they didn't have those anymore. I was transferred and the next rep told me it would be $700. When I balked, she dropped it to $400. I like Sirius, but I have no respect for they business practices.
