If my S.O. is with me but would prefer not to do the driving

Is there
1) a lounge with some wifi and maybe a TV at the center?
or
2) any interesting non-automotive attractions nearby?

Non drivers can ride with you or stand around and watch. Not much to do in the perf. Center. They could stay at the hotel or maybe get the shuttle driver to take them downtown. Lots to do downtown. Typically you get to drive two turns, but the PC may have exceptions.

If you rent a car the S.O. will have lots of options. Downtown Greenville is a nice place to hang out and Brevard, NC, Hendersonville, NC, Asheville, NC and Charlotte, NC all make good day trips.

My wife did the braking exercise, but refused to go on the skid pad. She just took video of me. Also the track, she drove with me, but when it was her time to get behind the wheel, she opted out, so I got to take her turn and she got out of the car and took the video from up on the hill where the instructor stood.

We both thoroughly enjoyed the factory tour, and after lunch, she refused to ride along doing the hot laps, and instead took some video.

S.O. can ride, but if not you could make an enjoyable day shopping and eating in downtown Greenville (not Spartanburg), swimming in the hotel pool, etc. N4S

Public wifi is available in the cafe. Let me know if you need anything else.

My wife is a workaholic as well. But she did put away her laptop and blackberry for the day and did go through most of the activities. The ones she skipped were due to terror. My argument is that you can work any day and almost anywhere - but how often do you get to see a BMW at the limit while having some fun?

I am a "senior" who picked up an X5 last week (with my 20 year-old son). I'm a total chicken but did the skids, braking, off-road (with the X's you are on a steep sideways angle, go down hills with foot off the brake) and thought the whole thing was a blast. I'll admit I did not do the hot lap but wish I did - they took my son around for a little extra spin. This is not a terror-provoking experience and the people who instruct you through the speakers in the car know what they are doing. Convince your S.O. to show up - it's not the Daytona 500 - I would do it again without hesitation!

I think she will have plenty of options. There was an older couple getting a X5 when my son and I picked up my 128i vert. The wife required repeated encouragement to get on the brakes hard enough to engage the ABS on the braking exercise but the instructors were gentle and she got it after a couple tries. They were also slow on the little autocross but the instructors directed the other cars around them and it was good. The instructors are used to people who don't want to be a race car driver. That isn't the point. The point is to show you a little about your car. One wife really like doing 360s on the skid pad and wanted to ride along when I did it. My son was filming. She was laughing the whole time. My son drove but he also got out of the car and filmed me driving several times. The instructors are great hosts and will make her comfortable.

She could also go over and spend more time at the BMW museum. You get a brief walk through at the start of the factory tour but I still want to go back for a longer visit some time.

There were several wives that skipped the hot lap. The only time I've heard people talk about motion sickness it was with hot laps in a X6M. For PCD, they use M3s or M5s, I believe, and there should be no issue. The instructors really know how to handle the cars, there is essentially no risk. I can't see why you would skip it. When the local chapter of the BMWCCA has an autocross at the performance center, the instructors also break out the M cars for hot rides. They are within a few seconds of the winning time with 3 passengers. These laps are a big hit, lots of spectators want to go multiple times, many of them women. I got to ride in a 1M last year. It's a beast.

I went solo, as the S.O. Couldn't make the trip. I got to do everything twice. All her turns, if she had been there, turned into mine. That's right, ABS braking x8, laps x8, skid track....round and round I went. Was an awesome time. You guys will enjoy the extra track time!
