I traded my F10 for an X5. I lost almost $7k on this trade. This goes to show you a few things about the F-chassis that I hate:
1) EPS - the steering is ridiculous, it is artificial and they can't get it right
2) Year 1 models (2011) like mine, had an issue called "Pull to the right". BMW took almost 9 months to come up with a solution (that was half-baked at best) and people from this forum had to push a lot to get them to recognize that the problem existed - something that they never officially recalled or anything like that. This is an example of first year BS that BMW is horrible at recognizing
3) throttle tip-in delay = this is something that some people on this forum claim that the X5 35i suffers from, but I call BS on that. I'm sorry, but go drive an F10 and an F30 and you'll see what real delay is
4) no exhaust sound, no excitement = i don't need a ricer, i don't want a booming exhaust ...but i want to hear my engine and the sound it makes! The E60 did this really well, the E70 does an amazing job, especially with the 35i ... I know you don't need this every day, but man, it's nice to hear what your BMW can do. Even in the new F10 M5 there is little to no sound heard inside, they had to fake it with a recording. Hear this out ...
I could go on, but honestly, BMW has changed way too much. They are softer, more luxurious and less sporty. They are not better driving cars, they are not better handling cars. You have to pay through the roof to get all the performance enhancing options that used to come standard (such as a nice steering wheel, good feel and weight, better suspension).
If you do decide to wait for the F15, I would say don't get the first year model. I just went through this decision process (just picked up my new E70 35i Sport Activity this weekend) and can tell you that I'm much happier and now have the best car I've ever owned, and the first BMW since my E90 328i to put a smile on my face every time I drive it, something the F10 never could do.
