Calif. Cars
There is a new 28i in California that I am kind of interested in. Are new cars sold in California required to have different pollution controls/devices on them than in other states? Any thing else that might be different about them? No pun intended.
Thanks Last edited by Gecko10; 05-13-2012 at 12:56 PM. |

No, not anymore. All cars sold in the U.S. meet the same pollution standards.

Thanks Golfer, I really needed that info. Of course I searched and Goggled but could not get a definite answer. My search for a Z4 can be broadened considerably now. Thanks so much again!!!

If you bring an out of state registered car into CA you have to pay state sales tax.

Normally you just have to pay a sales tax in your home state (state of registration) on the difference between the new car and the trade-in |

I'm not sure what happens with a non-resident trade in.
Best to read this carefully. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures/howto/htvr9.htm

Thanks Andrew. Looks to me like the person purchasing/registering a car in CA would be the one who would have to pay the sales tax on that car. The emission control inspection might be another matter.
Regardless its a question I that would probably be best answered answered by a client adviser. Last edited by Gecko10; 05-20-2012 at 09:59 AM. |
