Why would you want a dull white car anyway?

I can relate to the OP story. I REALLY wanted a white M-Sport. About three weeks before getting my car, I pull into our office parking lot (I only go in to our office once every couple of weeks) and see a brand new white 535 M-Sport sitting in the lot. I knew exactly who's it was - a guy I know really well. I stormed into his office and told him I could not believe he got it as I had just spec'd one out on-line just like it.

I wound up with my Imperial Blue because it was the closest car I could find in stock with the equipment I wanted. Every time I go up to our office I'm reminded by his car how much I like the white, but I have no regrets. BTW, several times people have mistakenly thought my car was black.

I ALMOST fell off the wagon today at the dealership....but I stuck to my guns an ordered the Alpine White.

They had an Alpine White sitting next to a Sapphire Black that was sitting two cars away from a Jet Black. After placing my order, I was still worried about the Alpine White - I went outside and looked at them all - it was a very nice sunny day here, perfect for inspecting paint.....

Sapphire Black: Hid the swirls and scratches reasonably well for black car standards, but had a layer of dust / pollen that took the edge off off the black color - in a bad way (Sapphire Black already seems "less black" than Jet Black from certain angles). The cars had been washed recently, so this was only after a couple hours of sitting....damned pollen....the bane of black-car owners.

Jet Black It was essentially horrific. All my memories of black cars (current car is silver) came flooding back. From a distance, looked awesome. From 5 feet, looked "patchy" with holograms showing here and there. From up close.....someone get me a buffer...swirls galore - If I had been buying this car, I'd have made them fix it.

Alpine White: Unless my nose was on the paint, I couldn't detect any swirls, or holograms, or anything. It looked detail-perfect. I did a swipe with a cloth and sure enough....pollen / dust....but you couldn't tell by looking. There's something about a black car that no other color can replicate, but the Alpine White looked great on the 535 and honestly held its own right next to the Sapphire Black. - Get that Sapphire black a fresh bath and a wax and it may have been a win for the black, but only for 13 minutes 24 seconds (based on the average wind-speed velocity of air-born pollen traveling through a mild crosswind at 1430 particles per square inch).

Alpine White is still a bit of a risk for me- its new, its untested, its....different. After looking at the two black cars though, I felt confident that I'd made the right choice for my long-term sanity.

You made the right choice for sure, you won't regret it. I too have owned all black cars and this Alpine White is a breath of fresh air!!!

I've owned black on multiple occasions, red, yellow, burgundy, blue, white and even had an orange wrapped work vehicle. I also ordered the Alpine White and absolutely love it, yo made the right choice.

White has a good combination of low maintenance and pop. Black is at one extreme, look the best but very high maintenace. Silver and space gray is low maintenance and no pop.

Lol @ the OP. I just had the same sentiment this morning. I was set on heading to the dealer this evening to order my Carbon Black 535xi m-sport and I saw an AW this morning and now ... I am stuck!!!

Well I never regretted my imperial blue even for a second.
To me only two good looking f10 colors are white and imperial blue.

My wife has alpine white and we love. Word of caution, however, it has almost the opposite affect as jet black where you have a tendency to neglect basic paint maintanance because it always looks good. I make it a point to hand wash and inspect closely at least once a month. That's if you don't want to get into mass tar removal, paint correction, etc...
It set me back 400 bucks last year

Doesn't look like you can get it on the 5, but a white car with red interior is my favorite. It's just a great color combination, IMHO.

The Sakhir Orange only available on the M5 is somewhat a red interior. It looks red in photos, I've yet to see it in person. I've seen pics of a white M5 with that interior color and looks really cool. Maybe a forum member with that setup can post a pic here.

Ordered a 2013 528i ALPINE WHITE today. I've previously owned TWO Alpine White BMW's (550i & 328 convertible) and you're right Imothph, it hides the most pollen/dust and crap than any other color. The 2013 328 I have to return is a Sparkling Bronze and is a pain to keep looking clean - didn't think it would have shown much dust/pollen but I was wrong. Love my WHITE BMW's

I've had several white cars over the years. White doesn't show dust, but when the car gets even a little bit wet the dust turns to grime and that shows up big time. I would say it's a better color for desert and semi-desert areas like So Cal than for a wet place like where you are. Still, it's not half as much work as a black car and you know what that's like.

You people and your stupid Alpine White cars…...

A white 535 M-Sport is truly a great looking car.

Black sapphire metallic is a cool color for BMW also, but unfortunately you can't get an F10 with M-Sport in that color. At least not right now.

Custom color "Santorini Blue" is the new Black... Kidding aside, a really sharp color IMNHO.

White is the new Silver

**************
For a second consecutive year, white is the most popular color for new cars, according to the 2012 DuPont Automotive Color Popularity Report. Black, silver, gray and red round out the top five. "Silver had its reign from 2001 to 2006."

http://www.forbes.com/sites/matthewd...ar-car-colors/
**************
I'd think the PNW would be perfect for a dark car since it will have the "wet look" a lot.
