Sunroof cover won't shut properly.

Hi BMW peoples.

I have a late (2006) E53 X5 with the panoramic (long) sunroof.

I'm having problems with the sliding cover for the roof. The glass sunroof itself is working ok.

If I try to close the cover from the full open position, it will only move a few inches and stop, although I'm continuously holding the button in the forward position.

I have to release the button, then hold it again, and it moves another few inches. I have to keep doing this like ten or fifteen times to get it all the way closed, but then it doesn't actually close all the way. It stays open by about 4 inches and won't close any further.

If I push the button backwards, the cover goes all the way back automatically in one go, no problem. When it gets to the back fully open position, however, I hear a loud click. Is that normal..?

I've had a good look at the track and there's no obstructions.

Can anyone shed some light on what's going on here..?
