2013 will be year five. So in two years would be reasonable to assume.

Um, what do you mean? This is the facelift (lci). The only next hing to come is a completely new 7 series in 2015.

I understand. I'm saying that, from the models I have reviewed, the biggest body changes ocurred at approximately 6 year intervals. While this is a refresh, I am curious as to when they make more significant body changes, besides minor plastic changes.

ADD: It's probably not that big a deal if you're leasing the car anyway.

They only do one "facelift" or LCI in the life of a model version and this is it for the F01/F02. The entirely new 7 will probably be out at some point in 2014 or early 2015 - at which point it will no longer be the F01/F02.

This comes up time and time again, but it's very simple:

E32: 1988 – 1994 (7 Years) / 1992 LCI Facelift (5th Year)
E38: 1995 – 2001 (7 Years) / 1999 LCI Facelift (5th Year)
E65: 2002 – 2008 (7 Years) / 2006 LCI Facelift (5th Year)
F01: 2009 – 2015 (7 Years) / 2013 LCI Facelift (5th Year)

So, 2016 will be the first model year of the next generation 7 Series.

7 year runs with 5th model year facelifts; like clockwork...

Don't care about the audio or the exterior bling bling (in fact the second chrome strip is plain fugly), but really hope they will offer the engine upgrade to 450hp (with BMW warranty).

Dinan yours, only 3000-3500 depends on stage, and you will have minimium 495HP. But the 8 speed transmission though.

You maybe still disappointed with B&O. F01 F02 B&O not nearly the same system as in the S class or A8. BMW uses only dash mounted tweeter, raised from dash, that is summed signal L + R. Other B&O standard tweeters in door A pillar. Summed tweeter same results as summed signal for subwoofers as used in many home theaters. Audi A8 gets full B&O treatment with tweeters on elevators. S class gets higher end tweeters also. Please not comments on the mids or bass or EQ. You can do better with aftermarket systems once you purchase the professional base system BMW offers. A few threads on this topic in f01 forum. BMW B&O is a huge compromise v. Benz, Audi.

Audi

Benz

That is not good news. I planned to include the B&O as an option on my new 7, but will now refrain from doing so until I am able to hear it, and compare it to the Audi's. If this turns out to be a half hearted effort, it would be truly disappointing to all. I'm already a little bummed just seeing the videos, but will withold judgement until I hear and see it on the demo.

Bring some music of your favorite or reference.
Any music that causes you to tap your foot or suddenly begin to sing along.
Pace, Rhythm & Dynamics http://www.stereophile.com/reference/23/index.html

8GB, 16GB USB 2.0 flash drive, music downloads plays in any of the new cars. Format NTFS (not FAT32)
I prefer USB downloads to compressed music on some Apple products.
SACD if you have any. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Audio_CD, plays in any of the new cars.
DVD content plays & decodes in 5.1, in these systems for audio test, explosive dynamics, Transformers dark of the moon, Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol.

SACD on ebay http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_saca...w=sacd&_sop=10

F01/ F02 B & O has tweeters in the A-Pillars. The speaker that raises out of the center of the dash is the center channel.
The A8 has tweeters raise from the dash, but not in the A-Pillars.
All that's different is which speakers raise from the dash, which is purely a Gee-whiz gimick anyway.

If I had a choice, I'd rather have the gee-whiz gimmick on the sides, rather than the center of my dash board which I find annoying. However, I would gladly accept it if the sound justified it. I am more concerned about the sound than the gadgedtry. I admit the Audi is pretty darn cool, but then that is just what they are all about--latest in gadgets and technology. Whereas the BMW is more concerned with the drive, then the gizmos.

I drove the A8 and was very undwhelmed by the strange steering wheel, lack of horsepower and prehistoric dash. So, I'll take the drive and try to figure out the best tunes for my buck.

I recall during undergrad biology my professor explained that our hearing was at it's very best at our age, but our limited college resources prohibited us from acquiring the very best in audio reproduction equiment. Sadly, when you are capable of affording the best equipment, you will enjoy 60% of what you could have when you were in college. So, his advice was max out your parent's credit card now and buy the best system you can find because later, it won't matter how much money you have, you can't buy better hearing. Oh well... So at our age, 40's +, it really is about the gadgets now I suppose.

I like your way of thinking.

I suppose it really is a happy medium. It's nice to have as much quality as possible but for me...I gotta have the gadgets.

Not quite gee-whiz gimmick….
Audi's implementation is an intelligent application of B&O's large high frequency driver (tweeter) dispersion pattern in addition to using the aid of the windshield to reflect spatial queues inherent in music back to the listener.
Audi and B&O team further realized the car's soft material and insulation covering the A pillar would absorb some of the tweeter's high frequency radiation, a technique as implemented in any sound/recording studio.
Furthermore the high frequency drivers on elevators can be thought of as a theft deterrent, clean look of dash when audio is not in use or otherwise non distracting to a person's peripheral vision. Cool factor is exceptional, YRMV.

I know, and I hear you. I'm a gadget whore, too. If it is better than the so called "Premium" stereo, I'll pull the trigger. But you have to admit, it is little annoying having that thing in the middle of the dash.

BMW B&O system center tweeter is ROFLMAO bleeding edge technology v. Audi B&O. Audi B&O is several years old although updated software and other drivers remains superior in 2012-13 car tech.
Pay BMW 950.00 + 3700.00 for the B&O v. Audi B&O system 6300.00. Clearly the BMW is me too tech and misses the target for some.
BMW could have not followed the OEM audio route of Harmon Int'l Lexicon/JBL bandwagon as is current and chosen something other than B&O also newly implemented by Mercedes Benz.
Probably 60+ OEM component choices (amps, speakers, XO, processors, video, USB interface) 22+ serious ready to go OEM car audio solutions Rockford Fosgate, Burmeister, JL Audio, Naim etc.

I'm sorry I didn't catch your Naim....

I am not really into audio, so I probably won't tell any real different between B&O and standard system. Hell, I don't even know the brand of the premium audio system in my 7.

Agree 100%. We have this super hi-tech and fancy B&O in our SLS AMG...and I cannot tell the difference between that system, and what is in our G55 or the new 7 Hybrid. I LOVE music, and cannot drive w/o it, but I do not appreciate or really hear the differences between all these sound systems!!!

Electro edition,
Curious to hear your opinion. For those of us with the current "premium sound" system, what would you recommend to improve the sound without spending a kings ransom and tearing the interior apart?
Thanks in advance.

Adjust your EQ. I have posted my settings in prior thread as:
Settings audio program to button #8

OVERALL (all numbers deviate from mid point indicator)
treb +10
bass -1 (from -1 setting, deviate 0, +1, +2, +3 to preference)
bal 0
fader +5
surround not checked (provides to me, false processed sound)

EQ (all numbers deviate from mid point indicator)
100 +4
200 +1
500 -1
1K +4
2K +2
5K +4
10K +9

Nothing can be done if you don't have/require a pro to install new components and tear apart the interior. Few have already done so with aftermarket sound.

Others have posted they cannot differentiate between OEM systems in their cars... comment, your perception creates your reality.
Perception from Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perception

I've heard from alot of Benz owners of S/SL models that the stock system is excellent and in most cases the B&O upgrade doesn't make a big difference.

I only listen to house music, and the usual rap songs about spraying champagne on strippers and stacking up racks, so I don't have a big problem with the stock 7-series system - though I do notice that it has more distortion than the stereo that was in my 07 750
