How to proceed for Aug 24th PCD

Hi folks,

Looking to do PCD of an X5d for my wife on August 24th.

First off, is this date even available? If so, how do I lock that in and when exactly would I want to order the vehicle? I've got one CA at one dealership saying we can go right ahead and order no problem, and another CA at another dealership saying program locks only last for 60 days (ie eco credit, owner loyalty credit, etc) and that it's too soon to order for an August 24th PCD, assuming that date is available (he wasn't sure). I'm guessing the second CA is probably correct, because I don't think he'd say to NOT come in and order just yet if there wasn't a good reason. Per the 60 day program lock rule I was told, I'm guessing we wouldn't want to order before the end of June? Is that correct?

HELP and thanks!

Reservations are processed in the order received and dates are assigned on a first come, first serve basis. Below are the parameters we have to work within.

Your BMW Center would have to try and find a vehicle in their allocation that would be built in a production week that would allow you to have a shot at the vehicle being delivered on your requested date. They should also make that request in the "Special Notes" section on the form. When your reservation is processed, they will try to schedule you on that date if requested and available, however requesting that date is not a guarantee that it will be possible.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guidelines for determining delivery dates, based on the vehicle’s production, are listed below. Please be aware that production changes, EPA/CARB holds for new models, shipping delays, repair holds and PCD availability may affect this calculation.

German Built Vehicles
  • Delivery dates are scheduled a minimum of 8 weeks after completed production.
  • Customer must take delivery no later than 12 weeks after completed production.

South Carolina Built Vehicles
  • Delivery dates are scheduled a minimum of 2 weeks after completed production.
  • Customer must take delivery no later than 6 weeks after completed production.

South African Built Vehicles
  • Due to extended shipping times and delays, these vehicles cannot be scheduled until they arrive at a US port.

European Re-Delivery Vehicles
  • These vehicles must arrive in the US and be processed by both US Customs and the BMW VDC before a delivery date can be determined.

I will be there the 24th for the Car Control School. Do they do deliveries on those days?

Deliveries take place Monday - Friday and we have track space available for the delivery driving exercises from 8-10am. The other Performance Driving Schools will go out on the track between 9-10am.

Whoa! No sooner than 8 weeks AFTER completion of production? I had no idea it was so long. Is that written in stone, or is that a safety margin approximation which actually varies with shipping time? Aren't the cars usually at VDC within 3 weeks of completion of production (for non-ED)?

Hello Jon,

Thank you for your answers. I have a question for you; my vehicle status is 112 and I am planning to do PCD. I can’t wait to take delivery, how long it will take? My CA doesn’t know.

Also I have another question for you; I ordered the DVD changer. Do I still get the USB in the glove compartment? Thanks a lot.

Your CA won't know until they submit a reservation request. Date availability depends on when the CA submits the reservation and how much demand we have for the program at that point in time. Dates are assigned in a first come, first serve basis, based on the reservation submission date. Based on those factors, the delivery date will fall within the timeframes listed above

Hi Jon,
I posted a thread in the Best of the fest PCD section not knowing about this thread. Here are the questions I had about PCD. Will you be able to answer some of this as I too am new to PCD?

I planned to do PCD on my new 335i xdrive thats on order. My CA looks like hes not used to doing PCDs and told me the last one he did was sometime ago. I had some questions regarding this that I am hoping you could help me figure out.

1. I am planning to finance through a Credit Union. When is the balance due at the dealership? Is it after I pick up my car or will all financial transactions have to be finalized before the PCD?
2. I have a trade-in. Will I have to leave the trade with the dealer before I come and pick up my car at PCD?
3. When you get your car at the dealer and for whatever reason you are not satisfied with it, you can refuse delivery. Can you do the same at the PCD? How do you address damages, problems/issues that you notice upon delivery at PCD?
4. How does the inspection/emission sticker get affixed? Most drivers are from out of state so is there a grace period on this? How about the license plate? Temp license plates?

Thanks in advance

Here you go.... I'll answer what I can. Hope this helps!

1. I am planning to finance through a Credit Union. When is the balance due at the dealership? Is it after I pick up my car or will all financial transactions have to be finalized before the PCD?

Depends on the dealer and what they require. It will have to be paid for prior to PCD as they will have to send us a copy of the bill of sale and authorization for us to release the vehicle to you (meaning they have been paid in full). We start asking for the paperwork about 1 week out, but depending on your location to the dealer and how the finance approval is being handled, the dealer may require it earlier to ensure the funds are received prior to your delivery date.

2. I have a trade-in. Will I have to leave the trade with the dealer before I come and pick up my car at PCD?

Once again, up to the dealer. I could only imagine they will need the trade when the finance is completed.

3. When you get your car at the dealer and for whatever reason you are not satisfied with it, you can refuse delivery. Can you do the same at the PCD? How do you address damages, problems/issues that you notice upon delivery at PCD?

You can refuse delivery if you choose, but you will need to talk with your dealer while here regarding the reasoning. If there is an ordering issue (i.e. wrong trim was ordered by the dealer), you will need to first discuss the issue with your CA to see if it is something they can correct. We will help handle any cosmetic issues if discovered.

4. How does the inspection/emission sticker get affixed? Most drivers are from out of state so is there a grace period on this? How about the license plate? Temp license plates?

Another dealer question. Obviously we cannot issue inspection stickers for another state, and SC has no inspection needed. If your dealer gives you the sticker to bring with you, you can place it where needed. Otherwise you'll need to have the vehicle inspected upon your return home.

Your dealer should also issue you a license plate or temp tag. Should they encounter a situation in which there state will not allow them to issue a temp tag, they can contact us to see if we can issue one. Most states now have the capability to allow dealers to issue temporary tags for in and out of state residents.
