Batteries R US vs. Dealership batter

Just told that the dealer will install a new battery $7.00 but they have to 'program' the keyless set.. It this a bunch of smoke?

Can I change it myself and then plug in to steeting wheel and it will auto program?

I'm assuming you mean the fob battery and not the car battery. If your car has Comfort Access, go to Radio Shack and get the battery (open the fob to access the battery - owners manual shows how). No reprogramming needed.

Comfort Access Fob? $7.00 for the battery, free installation and what $500 to program the car.

If it is the comfort access fob just buy the battery (CR2032 if I remember) and replace it yourself. Takes 30 seconds and no programming of any sort.
