Loud Plane Noise while driving at 50 + MPG On a quite smooth road

I am not sure whats causing this but i hear a lound "Small plane propeller engine" noise when i go over 50+MPGs on a quite smooth road. I truned the AC off and i am not sure whats casuing it.....any thoughts:

Wheel Bearings? Possible
Tires ? - Doubt it
Susspension?

Anyone else had this issue?

My '08 4.8 sport has a similar noise that the dealer has not been able to diagnose.

Thats interesting cuz i have a 07 4.8i as well. What has the dealer done to fix your issue (so we can rule them out)?

They first blamed the tires, so I replaced them. Then they blamed torn CV joint boots and they replaced the two front joints. Still had the noise after that. They put microphones under the car, but could never pinpoint the source.

Thanks Tony, i will be sure to not try these things....I am leaning toward wheel bearings.....I'll take it in and let you know what I find out.

It sure sounds like a bad wheel bearing, but it only makes the noise between 50-75 MPH. I would think a bad bearing would make more noise while turning even at slow speeds. BTW, I also replaced my transfer case fluid with no improvement of the noise.

All windows closed? What are YOUR tire conditions??? (tony's car, his results and what did and didnt work are VIRTUALLY IRRELEVANT to you.... interesting perhaps, but you'd be foolish to rule things out based on "my car made the same noise" over the internet...)

Miles? Does it do the same thing in any gear?

Point noted ARD! But i don't think the things that Tony's dealer tried to fix is the problem based on my knowledge of the car. it has 42K miles on it. Tires are in good shape as well.

So I got my car fixed. Turns out it was the driver side wheel bearing!!! Cost me $850 to replace.... Not happy, since the car only has 42K miles on it. But the noise is gone!

Shouldn't that be covered under warranty?

No, unfortunately it's an 07 4.8

I'm having fairly loud fan type of noise coming from the engine compartment driving at 60 + MPH speed, at about 80 it's very prominent. I've asked dealer to look at it but they were not able to confirm it... Now I need to find similar 4.8 i to compare and prove it to the mechanics that it's not normal...
