Intermittant start 2001 740il
I have an intermittant failed start of my 2001 740il. If I cycle the key a few times 2-5, it will start. Dash lights always come on, fuel pump appears to hum, then the last position of the key turn (to turn over starter) lights stay on and no power to starter. Battery is good. Ignition switch or relay issue, any clues? Scott

I had the same problem with my 01 740i. Only on mine it would eventually drain the battery.Replaced the starter and have had no more problems.

Thanks, I was considering tapping on the starter when this would happen, to see if it had any effect. It will start fine 10 times in a row, then when u turn the key, just a click like a selnoid sound, recycle the key 1-3 times, then starts up again. Is the starter easy to change? Scott

Starter is pretty much the same as changing it on any car.disconnect the battery so you don't ground out on anything.
