BMW 2012 NAV dvd issue

Hello,
Just bought the 2012 nav dvd for my 2004 E60 with CCC nav for the East region. Car wouldn't recognize dvd. Continues to prompt to insert dvd, so i take out the 2012 dvd and insert the 04 dvd and the 04 still works. has anyone encountered this issue of 2012 dvd not working. I just got the dvd as an update on POIs and few road changes. I also verified that 2012 dvd had about 2.7 Gb of content.

Your iDrive version isn't high enough- Here's a procedure to check your version as well as some other cool oddities:



You'll need at least a 2006-2007 level update to run that disc. Honestly, even with my update, my CCC still chokes on my 2009.1 disc on load sometimes. Never happens with the original 2006-2007 disc that came with the car.

Thanks for the info, i tried the video and it showed the hidden menu but i had my idrive replaced in december 2007 because it would freeze at different times. BMWNA replaced it under warranty and updated the software to the latest software they had in 2007. i know it worked because my idrive homescreen went from looking brownish to grayish. then in 09 i purchased the bmw nav disk but returned it cos the 09 dvd was dual layer and would not read, i was told the 11/12 dvd was single layer hence split to east and west region. that's why i bought the east region, yet it doesn't work.

i'm just trying to see if any of us have experienced something similar. i can upload the screen of the hidden menu shortly. all it gives is a manufacture date of the hardware of 4.2.2007,

Hmmm. Odd. It should work fine with a 2007 version. But perhaps not, obviously.

I have 07 530i. Bought 12 Pro Nav disk from BMW dealership who verified it was the correct version to replace original DVD. Experienced same issue. Said to turn system off, wait 5-minutes and then restart. After doing this all I got was "load nav disc" prompt. Tried several times - I.e. waiting 5- minutes after loading disc with car on and off, still no go. BMW Technician said I had to let car go to sleep (meaning orange light next to parking shifter had to go off). Said it takes about 16-minutes for car to "go to sleep" so I waited 30-mikes, still didn't function. Ended up getting my money back. After reading all the bad experience threads I am risk adverse when it come to upgrading software versions. Fortunately I have yet to have any electrical glitches, I-drive /CCC crashes, etc.

Was fighting this battle today. Still no fix for us 2005 CCC guys unwilling to retrofit?

Just FYI, its that 2009.1 disc that is causing the errors. There was a batch of bad discs from Navtec and I managed to get one also. My CCC would struggle to read the disc and give up eventually. I bought a set of 2012 copies from a guy named Imm1005 on eBay for $45 and the CCC hasn't missed a beat! You need to chunk that disc...

Guys, if your homescreen is Brown in color, you won't be able to read the newer discs (about 2008 and later). You will need a firmware update. If your homescreen menu is gray in color, you shouldnt have any problems..

The Issue is not with the screen or firmware version, its the DVD type.
The DVD Player will only play DVD+R consistently.
If the DVD is DVD-R or DVD+RW it will play them, but will consistently report errors or not regonise the DVD.

I used both DVD-R and DVD+R, none worked.
