The 7 is Gone, Purchasing Something New...

So I got rid of the 7 last week, really liked it and it was an amazing experience (minus the garage trips)! Definitely gonna miss it, and its luxury that can't be found in most other cars that aren't German.

Here is what I am planning to place an order for in a couple of days:

2013 Ford Edge Limited, in Platinum White.
I know I know, from a BMW to a Ford, Moving onto a crossover/suv, but I am trying to focus on reliability for once (knock on wood).

With this interior:

Basically, the tech is more advanced than the German brands, but I am giving up on luxury (noticed that odd piece of plastic in some places, like the doors, where you would see leather/vinyl on Bimmers). I hope it stays as reliable as a daily driver, but I should be fine throughout the beginning. Also thinking of the Explorer, which looks better and is a lot bigger, but the fuel efficiency and higher premium are holding me back.

Why not an x3 or x5? Anything domestic will be a huge disappointment. Once you go BMW you can't go back.

I realized that, but both of those are going to be higher on gas, don't offer the same tech (but excel in luxury/performance), and I can't promise their reliability.

What year, how many miles did you have and how much did you get for your 7? did you take it to carmax or another dealer or a private sale?

The sport looks much better with the 22's. Also, posting that car a replacement on this forum will neverend well...flagship to sunken ship never will pass

Not going for the Sport, don't dig the look.

I Think we are being genuine bro. If you think the resale value on your 7 was bad I would say in less than 3yrs the Ford will be worth close to Nothing(even worse)IMHO. Good Luck if that's what you like buy it.

Why not get a Lexus RX instead? It's about the same size, highly luxurious, reliable, has the technology you're looking for, and gets great fuel mileage for an SUV - especially the RX450 hybrid.

I'll say it, the interior of that ford isn't bad at all. They've come along way. Hell, my father drives a Lexus GX460 and he loves the Taurus!

I had one as a rental (fully loaded platinum edition) and it was a decent car. Would I spend the 40K on it to buy it, HELL NO!

Pros:
Nice styling
Has some pretty good acceleration
Has some good tech gadgets like rear backup cam, etc.
A LOT of leg room in the rear and front
Decent audio system

Cons:
The Ford Touch/Sync system is HORRIBLY slow
ALL the buttons are touch and are VERY hard to press unless you are looking at them
Rattles, this one had 15K miles on it and the interior rattled
Horrible real world MPG on both the highway and in the city

If I had a choice, the most I would pay is in the lower 30K range OTD for it. There are much better options for the price.

Owning BMW as a single and primary daily driver car is a bad idea.

Owning BMW and another 'unreliable' German car (RR, Mercedes, Volvo etc) is a bad bad idea.

Owning BMW and Lexus at the same time will put a smile on your face. At least, the love/ hate relationship is neutralized.

On the facelift f01 - whole lots of things, new Idrive, new instrument panel. But even on the f01 I've got now, there's definitely more *high end* electronics, assistant systems and gadgets.
But hey to each their own.

Hey - i've looked into that. This problem was fixed. the super slow MyFord Touch/SYNC system existed in 2011 & some 2012 models, but they sent out updates this year, and 2013 models already come with the updated version which eliminates the lag, etc. It is much more usable now.

I was also looking into that - Was considering the ES, GS, and the RX. As I decided on a suv/crossover this time, I wasn't too fond of the looks on the RX. It looked like a toy, had no real aesthetics. And the interior uses nice materials, but the design is not too good as well. Look:

Perhaps, but I think the Edge is equipped with some pretty nice stuff.. these kind of electronic displays are on both sides, and you can customize them to your liking:

some cool features were ambient lighting, Blind spot info system, full panoramic roof, and it has all/most of the stuff you would find on the f01 - like rain-sensing wipers, power trunk, etc. probably the only one missing would be soft-close doors.

Drive a Genesis R-Spec before you buy an Edge or anything else. My R-Spec replaced an unreliable 2011 5-Series, and I never looked back. It's been flawless. My wife kept her 2011 Edge 1 year and couldn't live with the endless software updates to the Sync system, blank screens, horrible Bluetooth quality. Ford bought it back and she bought an XC60 that she loves.
