Need help

I have a 2000 BMW 528I and I hear a light roaring sound from the front of my car. I noticed when I cranked my car this morning I could hear it. Also when I pull off from stopping I could hear it but it lessens as I continue to drive. What could this be?

Sound clip or video should be helpful. Hard to imagine sound by reading it. That explains 38 views without response.

Check your fan clutch. Was your fan clutch ever changed?

Maybe on it way out. Do a forum search for fan clutch.

need answers

I was told it could be a wheel bearing. I noticed for about a week my steering wheel would shake just a little bit whenever I am on the express way. Now I hear this light roaring sound. Do you think that could have something to do with it? Also is it a way I can checked to see if it is my fan clutch?

I guess that is why second poster suggested a sound clip.

Well, to me front of car meant "in front of the hood". Roaring could be wheel bearings as well but I would've expect a description of sound from my wheels rather than front of car.

Wheel bearings are easier to check. Jack up the front of the car and spin the tires, you should hear that sound. Some also say failing wheel bearings sound louder when you turn as the bearings get loaded.

Some also describe wheel bearing failure as rattling tin cans. Fan clutch will sound like an airplane propeller. Which is it?

Finally, shaking of steering wheel MAY or MAY NOT be related to wheel bearings. Could be that you need new thrust arm bushings.

Suggest you have the car thoroughly inspected by a BMW indy if you can.

Would help everyone to help you if you give a little history about the car too to understand what has or has not been done with the car.

problem solved

Thanks everyone. My car is now fixed and the problem was my water pump. I was also told that I need a new fan clutch. My fan is not turning as fast as it should. I will have that problem fixed this weekend.
