Dinan and Driving Modes DSC, DTC

Just had Dinan Stage 2 installed yesterday on my 550i xDrive and very impressed with the power and torque, but I have a question on the driving modes, DSC and DTC. Is there a recommended procedure to follow for best performance. Is it DSC off, DTC off, Sport +?
I searched through the forum and found a few threads on Dinan and drag times but not on what mode is the best.
Also I thought I had read on this forum that the Dinan ECU update included different driving modes but that might have been in my dreams.

Free Flow exhaust and Stage 3 will get installed tomorrow or Friday (once it gets to the dealer)

I'd say Sport mode (both chassis and performance) and DS or manual shift mode. Sport+ will turn off traction control which you probably don't want in a 500hp rear drive car on the street.

According to the manual and the screen, Sport + turns DTC on not off.

DTC/DSC is alway confusing. DTC is a traction mode that allows for some wheel slippage. To fully disable traction control, one needs to press the DSC button for 5 seconds.

If you have read my drag posts, you will see there's no more than a 0.1-0.2 sec difference in the quarter mile times no matter which mode the car is set. Assuming I'm on the road and not the track, I normally drive in Sport Mode (suspension only). If I want to go fast, I usually move the center shifter to the left to drop one gear. If I want to go even faster, I push the mode button to Sport + which drops another gear. After that, I'm using the paddle shifters.

BTW, congrats on the Dinan S2.

Congrats on the stage 2. It was money very well spent!

Btw, which dealer are you getting your Dinan work done? I ended up going with Motor Works West in Northern NJ.

One of the reasons I was asking was my 13 year old son went for a ride with me yesterday and he said can you spin the tires? I said sure but every DSC/DTC/Mode option I tried I could not get any slippage.

The consistency in times makes sense for your xdrive - you're probably not getting enough wheel spin to activate the DSC. For my rear wheel drive car it makes a big difference as I can easily get enough wheel spin to induce the unwanted effects, even in DTC mode. My rule of thumb is Sport if it's raining, Sport+ if it's dry, DTC inactive if I'm at the track.

My 8 year old son asks for the same. He always wants to race... I am so worried about him when he gets his license! I told him what ever car he gets (he wants 3-series) it will have to be the 4-cyl version!

I can induce a lot of wheel spin if I turn DSC off by holding the button for 5 seconds. If yours does not, then something might be wrong?

This is the problem with XDrive. On the SDrive models you can certainly spin the wheels, especially with Dinan in Sport+.

I don't think it's a lot of money considering a 25% power increase. There's people who spend a lot of money for other cars on intercoolers, intakes, exhausts, downpipes and only see nominal power increases.

While it is no small amount of money. It really is a very small sum to pay for that kind of performance gain! I am on the fence about getting it done, but driving around in my pop's v12 vehicles has spoiled me...and while my 550i is fast, it just doesn't feel fast enough.

As far as wheelspin, I completely turn off traction control and the 550i 6MT is a tire smoking beast. It is quite a change coming from a 535xi. I can't even imagine what it would be like after Dinan Stage 2!

Yeah I am probably going to pull the trigger on the Dinan in the near future.

+10000

$3500 is nothing for gains of 101 bhp and 130 lbs-ft of torque. Try to get those kind of gains in a naturally aspired engine without boring out the engine.

I (and I am sure a lot of others) would love to hear what the free flow exhaust + stage 3 sounds like on a 550. Would it be too much trouble to record a video or sound clip??

THANKS!!

Please comment on in cabin sound during normal cruising. Is there the slightest hint of droning? Thanks!
