2012 650i xDrive [Waiting for My 2013 M6]

Just picked this puppy up yesterday afternoon. I am fairly sure this forum has seen it's share of carbon black coupes with the 373M 20" rims so I've tried to include a few shots of the interior as well (cinnabon leather with fine line oak trim - that one's for you Souther6er3275!).

Good shot of the B&O and the contrast stitching. To think I was once worried this would look like cheap plastic!

More shots of the interior.

Ceramic controls FTW.

I am 100% serious when I say there is a smidge more room in the back than I remembered. Just a smidge though.

Where it all begins.

I thought this was an interesting shot. Don't ask me why.

More exterior.

You can tell by the size of the basket ball hoop what kind of people will be riding in the back. And by people, I mean little girls born of parents of average height.

Very few miles on it so far. But so far it feels like a beast. It's not a small car, and you can tell from the visual cues when sitting in the driver's seat. But it otherwise drives much smaller than it looks. More sporting/dynamic than my smaller and lighter 2010 5 Series, which was no slouch mind you. And the egregious horsepower is something I've missed since my S6 days. Right now experimenting with Sport vs Comfort, and I am already thinking Sport + 19" rims would be the ideal mix. And perhaps lose the RFTs. But even on the 20s the ride is surprisingly non-brittle.

Some of you may know that this car is slated to be replaced in a few months by a 2013 MY. So I will probably limit this miles on this one. It's going to be a rough few months!

Amazing car and great pictures! I'm glad to see that I didn't actually dream up this thread lol.

The exterior in your pictures look extremely black with very little blue. Compare those pics to the ones I posted below.

The Cinnabon is definitely growing on me from your pictures. Did you use a flash when you took these pictures? I hate to ask such a dorky question, but I'm trying to mentally PhotoShop the amount of exposure. Some of the less exposed pics make the Cinnabon look very, very nice and different from my unoriginal black

Thanks! It was completely overcast this morning, so there was basically no direct sunshine on the car - which is why the blue didn't pop. Certainly not nearly as sunny as the pictures you show. Lots of rain so far this season, which has been good for the yard rehab at least.

The camera is a Canon Rebel EOS. The flash was available for most of the exterior shots and all of the interior ones - though I am not sure if it actually flashed for each picture. The interior shots are unedited, though a couple of the exterior ones were brightened up a bit given how dark it was.

I picked brown interior because all I ever chose previously was black. But I like the way it looks! If I can't get canyon brown on the next one I'd be perfectly fine with this.

The color chameleon nature of this color is one of my favorite aspects. It makes the extra work to keep it clean worth it.

It's amazing the difference the flash (and overall lighting) makes - that's why I asked. Some of the first ones I took had the flash, and the black looked washed out and grayish. It changes almost as much as the Carbon Black lol. Visual optics can be really annoying sometimes

A few follow up impressions:

1 - Still quite surprised at how well the car rides with the 20" RFTs. Hoping 19" non-RFTs will be perfection. Still firmly in the "sporty" category, but not bad.

2 - Steering wheel should really have a flat bottom. This would make entry easier for short people like me (5'8") that likely have the seat bottom adjusted upward.

3 - Sport mode is MUCH louder than I expected, in an awesome way. It's also almost a safety feature in that it helps provide some sense of speed. Otherwise the car appears almost too effortless/quiet. The noise also helps on winding roads filled with joggers and bikers (many with headphones on). Also, dogs, deer, children and the occasional varmint.

4 - Saw my carbon black for the first time in full sunlight. Looks fairly awesome but I am leaning more towards citrin black now.

5 - The B&O system is fantastic.

6 - Making excuses to run to CVS and the hardware store. It's almost funny. Anyone need anything? Diapers? Kitty litter?

I went through 3 tanks in the first week due to my endless driving all over town, hitting every on/off ramp, and foing out to the country back roads. At least you're trying to act like the extra driving has a purpose.

I love the headliner. On my last 650 I had it but this one I didn't even think to add it and miss it. Good choice

Pan, will you post a couple pics of the standard headliner. I'm curious about how it looks as I've never seen a non-M Sport coupe in the metal... or the fabric in this case Seems like all of the convertibles (with standard headliners different from the coupes) that hit my dealer are non-M and all of the coupes (a whole three of them - not counting mine) have the M package. Thanks in advance

Edit - Thom, if you're reading this, does the M Sport convertible also have the alcantara headliner on the under side of the convertible top? I've only seen inside pics of yours with the top down or showing below-the-headliner shots.

Thanks pan. I love the alcantara too. And given how close your head is to the roof, it's all the more important!

Forgot to mention how much I LOVE the moonroof. It is so much cooler than I expected. Whole different experience versus the solid.

Maybe it was an optical delusion! The interior in person is more brown than red IMO, and better looking than I anticipated. So much so, that if I can't do canyon brown I will be OK with it. Thanks!

The shot of the interior showing the passenger door definitely looks brown. Some of the others made me think reddish (maybe the name cinnamon is making me think red).

Anyway it's great looking!

Enjoy.

I do miss the Aston for certain reasons, but the 650 is so much better in almost all ways. I am sure the bimmer is faster, more functional, more everyday. The Aston felt fast going 20, the 650 does not really feel fast going 100...

But then again, I think I just fell in love with a matte grey Ferarri 458 Italia. Can someone lone me $200K?

If anyone would like to trade a 458 for a 650xi, I'd be cool with that.

Of all the 4 seater coupes and equivalents that I considered, I found this not be the case. Sure some of them are louder, but "practically silent" is a huge overstatement IMO. My first thought when using Sport mode was "damn this thing is not much quieter than the 911 GTS I test drove."

On the highway I would agree with the assessment but that's the best of both worlds IMO (ie. loud on acceleration, quiet in cruise).

Thank you very much! The tone can change a bit depending on lighting, sort of like carbon black, but I'd say the browner shots are more representative.

Was just looking at McGee's pics again. I love the dark carpet.

I'd love to know which geniuses decided Ivory carpet would be a good idea with the Ivory interior. Grrrr!

I mean the ****ing interior is already two toned black/white. The black carpet would've been perfect.

As it is now I've got CB to obsess over on the exterior. White leather AND white carpeting to stress about keeping clean too. FML. Haha!

Sigh*

It does seem odd that they didn't offer that configuration since it's pretty common in the 5er and 7er. I think they just wanted to screw with the 6er folks
